would install them on their roof....we would drastically reduce the Oil imports to this Country or at least divert the Oil to where it is needed the most.
Now - sadly - the components necessary for these systems should NOT be so expensive as they are simple structures, wiring and blades.
The 'better' are the VERTICLE as they are reported to harm less birds AND most importantly do NOT need to face into the wind as they are designed to capture the wind (and spin) no matter which way they face - I like that a lot!
BUT - this is a big 'BUT' - they are priced so expensively that they are cost prohibitive!
This is priced at $35,000 with shipping ! Are you kidding me? With the yearly cost I pay for electricity - it would cost ME app. 18 years BEFORE I can pay for this system or in other words - 'BREAK EVEN' . YES, I still expect to break even with ANY investment I make.
This unit needs a MINIMUM wind speed of 11 miles per hour to begin turning - by the way this does not mean you will get the most of this unit at wind speeds of 11MPH. Find a website that shows the daily average wind speeds in YOUR area and take note of how many days wind speeds went to 11 MPH. Consider though - WIND GUSTS do NOT count.
I never purchased a new Refrigerator as the cost (of it) versus electric monthly savings on its operating cost - would take 20 years to break even. Refrigerators seem to have problems after only 3-5 years. My 30 year old (very stylish) refrigerator costs me $20.00 per month to operate. Sorry Folks - wind generators and stainless steel Frigs. are not a way to SAVE YOU MONEY.
Even WITH the tax breaks.
I will still be looking for a reasonably priced Vertical turbine - that begins to spin at 5-7 MPH. My area in Pennsylvania had wind speeds of 5MPH for 231 days of 365 and 92 days of 365 at 9MPH. Now you can begin to understand what will save you money.
