THE YORK FRENCH PRESS
This French Press Brews the tastiest coffee and tea and gives a bold look and presence to your table top. That's the YORK French press coffee and tea maker by GROSCHE. A uniquely designed and crafted French press with fine Stainless Steel construction makes for a wonderful table top coffee and tea making experience.
WHAT IS A FRENCH PRESS?
Commonly known as a ‘French Press’, this style of manual coffee making is perhaps the best way to make rich, full-flavored coffee. By allowing coarse ground coffee (the grind you should always use in a French press) to infuse completely with the entire body of hot water over a few minutes; the flavors and oils extracted from the grounds in this process offer a true coffee taste unmatched by any other style of brewing.
The YORK French Press offers a dual filter system, with the main press being one, and another one in the lid as well. That will retain heat and allow for better flavor for your coffee or tea. The YORK French press coffee and tea maker is truly a great French press, backed by Great Customer Service! This press is designed for lovers, connoisseurs, and purists of perfect, rich, and flavorful Coffee and Tea. The YORK French press has premium stainless steel housing and is dishwasher safe. It uses no electricity, and is easy to rinse and clean, and uses absolutely no paper filters!

ORIGINAL REVIEW: The downside of French presses is that they break. So I have had more than a few. The Grosche York is better quality than some. Good qualities: 1) the glass is sturdy; one (famous) brand uses glass so fragile you don't want to breathe on it for fear of breaking. 2) not only is the filter stainless steel, the screw mechanism that holds the plunger together is also steel; some brands have the screw mechanism made out of plastic. 3) a review of a different Grosche coffee press had me worried as it said the exterior metal started to rust almost immediately; I took a chance because this one was cheap, and am happy to report (UPDATED) no rusting after two months of daily use.
UPDATE FEB 2015: Used almost daily for two and a half years, it's still going strong.
- Makes more than two mugs of coffee per press
- Durable thermal glass construction (thicker than my Bodum)
- Filter appears to be no different than a Bodum
- Very affordable
- The lid is plastic and doesn't feel super solid
- Instructions recommend not using a dishwasher
I'm going to contact the company (GROSCHE) and see if they're aware of this product design defect - will update here when I hear from them.
So great product at a great price.
Looks sophisticated and contemporary on my counter (better than other brands in my opinion)
Construction is good for the price
All metal construction in the handle and in the movable parts
This size can make coffee for more than one person (I just use less water for one)
Plastic Lid that I hold with my thumb when I pour (it didn't fall out, just feels safer. For the price I can't complain)
This was my first french press so I researched them for weeks before I made a purchase. Scoured Amazon, other online reviews and articles, talked to friends who work for local coffee shops (I like the research process!) and finally decided to give this one a try. I also tested out a few Bodum models at Starbucks (they use them and/or sell them - the Chambord, Brazil and Kenya) and they were nice but nothing to write home about. As I researched it seemed that most people liked the Bodums and Grosche brand better than many others (in this price range) and I liked the look of the Grosche so I chose to head that route. I really like the look of the Grosche Madrid and Rome but each of those options were at least twice as much as the York. I looked at the Grosche Libson because the price was similar. I actually liked the look of it better than the York from the pictures but it had an all glass handle and it didn't sound like that particular feature would hold up well.
Ultimately, I am very happy with this purchase. Compared to the Bodums I really like the look of the Grosche brand (just as I thought i would). Functionally, the glass in this french press seems as sturdy or sturdier than some others I have seen. I like that all the moving parts except the spinning plastic top with a second filter, are metal. The metal "press"/screen works good on multiple kinds of coffee I have used and the second screen in the lid is a nice feature that isn't found on all french presses in this price range. Again... I really like the way it looks (I like it better in person than in the picture personally) showing off the glass and highlighting with stainless and black (it looks nice on the counter). Lastly, for the price I could buy this twice before I hit into some of the other models I mentioned (Madrid, Rome, Chambord).
I have had this french press about a month and it seems to be holding up fine. I wash the glass (keeping it within the handle/metal support) in the sink with dish soap (the inside, not the outside) and I just rinse the "press"/screen and lid with hot water until I feel it needs to be washed (roughly 5 cycles of making coffee for me) and then I wash that part by hand. Some people don't ever like to use soap, but I do (true coffee folks - scoff here).
I like my new french press coffee much better than my old drip coffee maker coffee (I no longer own one of those - gave mine to my dad)!
