I was a Barista in Germany and I am obsessed with coffee and espresso related gadgets. This is my fifth French Press. I bought two (can't remember brand names) during the three years I was in Germany and I have bought two (both were Bodum) since May when I returned to the States. I received this as a Christmas present from my mom in Germany. I have only been using this press for about a week, but there are some major design features that set this press apart from the others that I have owned in the past.

Coffee stays hot for about an hour and warm for about an hour after that.
The way that the bottom is angled helps to keep grounds out of your coffee. (Tip: If you have a ton of grounds in your coffee, use a coarser grind. Be aware that there will always be a very small amount of grounds in pressed coffee)
This may sound like the wrong adjective, but the main filter is very "sturdy". If you have ever had a press with a very flimsy filter, you'll understand. When you actually press the coffee, the filter barely has any play. (Tip: If yours is wobbly, you may need to tighten the filter.)
The filter, which has three separate parts, is able to be removed and taken apart for cleaning. I just rinse the three parts in warm water.
The mesh part of the filter does not have any loose wires sticking out; the edge is completely smooth. However, I did accidentally bend mine (I dropped it), but it was very easy to manipulate the mesh to make it smooth again.
This press has an additional filter at the spout. I tested it by intentionally letting some grounds get into the coffee. The filter actually caught about 95% of them.
The press is clear, which is great. I like to be able to see what I am doing.
The size is perfect. My last few presses were smaller.

We use a French Press on regular basis and have tried several brands through the years (we used Bodum for years and SterlingPro for the last 3 months). We like using French Press because it produces a full bodied coffee flavor. I got Grosche French press because I wanted to get a small size to take with me to work. It is just big enough to give me one mug of coffee.

Grosche French press feels well made. It has mostly stainless steel construction, only portions of the cap are made out of black plastic. The mesh is very fine and leaves no sediment. In the attached video I include an image of the last sip of coffee on the bottom of the white mug, so you can see how well filtered the coffee made in this French press is. Overall, I really like it. The capacity is just perfect for my needs, it operates smoothly, and it looks good.

This French press is provided by Grosche.

I used to have a Bodum French press, and even being careful, always managed to break the glass carafes. A clerk at a store that sells them even said she thought the company made them so thin on purpose - so that customers would have to keep buying replacements. I decided to research a new brand and ended up purchasing the Grosche Madrid. I love it! The glass seems to be thicker, and it is very well made and sturdy over all. I also think this design is a lot more attractive and certainly less common than the ones Bodum offers. The screen part that filters the grinds is very fine and fits perfectly. I am definitely a convert to Grosche.
And on another note, even though I chose standard shipping, I received this item the very next day after I placed the order - I don't even know how that's possible!
Great all around!

If you have not used a French press for coffee, you have missed out.

And this is one fine French press!

Sure it's not automatic and you can't just press a button and make it work, yet some of the best things out there are still that way. For example, my Dyson vacuum takes more work than my Roomba, but the Roomba sits in the closet and I never use it because it doesn't work as well.

This bypasses most coffee makers for those who just want a good cup, no latte, no espresso, just great coffee.

And that's why the French press has been around forever...yet this one strains great, creates great flavor and has beautiful design qualities

Love this one!

When people say they get as good a cup of coffee from their drip machine as a french press, I'm guessing they're not using very good coffee. With good fresh beans, and the proper grind, a french press produces the best coffee I've had. You can see the oil from the beans ring around your cup in a very slight froth after pressing. There are VERY small solids suspended in the liquid which carry much of the flavor. You can't tell the solids are there unless you let the coffee sit long enough for them to settle out to the bottom. Even then, though by that time your coffee is likely cold, it doesn't lessen the experience and great cup of coffee. A filter filters out all the good stuff: most of the oil and all the very small solids. The press method retains the most flavorful parts of the coffee.

If you're considering a press, I highly recommend the Grosche Madrid. The price is right, the size is perfect. You can easily adjust how much coffee you make by how much water/grounds you use so you don't need to worry about always having too much coffee. However, when the need arises you have a bigger pot to make more coffee for those mornings when you need the extra jolt or when company comes.

In my opinion, I think the cleanup's even easier, too. After you finish the last of the coffee, just dump the grounds into the disposal and rinse the filter and pitcher. Bam, 2 minutes, it's clean. I do throw mine into the dishwasher once or twice a week. Also, if you get this item, it's IMPERATIVE that you get yourself a proper burr grinder. Pre-ground will never taste as good, and blade grinders are simply out of the question.

All in all, it's well worth the money. It costs less than a good drip coffee maker, makes better coffee, and cleanup is a breeze. Why wouldn't you buy this?
