So I'm prepping for the John Muir trail, and I needed a larger rehydration, heating and eating pot/bowl. I used to use the 32oz GSI, handled, oversized cup with lid and no insulation. I needed something larger and beter. I bought the 50oz size.
I use the "Jet Boil Flash" system and love the simplicity. I only use it for boiling water, period. Coffee, instant...food, freezdried...and I save money on freezdried food by buying it in multiserving cans and repackaging with a vacuum sealer. It also saves room in my pack or bear canister. Anyway, as I ramble, I unscrewed the coffee press and the jetboil fits perfectly inside!!
You have to do two small modifications. First you have to cut the small protruding lid opener on the JB. so it fits inside, also, on the JB's insulation cover, you'll have to cut off the loop above the handle. Both are no big deal. Also I added two zipper pulls, see pics.
You end up first, putting the JB in without the lid. Then ,you push the lid, upside down into the pot. It fits so perfect, it holds the JB titely and doesn't let it move at all, absolutely perfect for my need!!!
So, you lose a little weight by ditching the press portion, it's insulated to hold the heat while rehydrating, as well as covered with cordura fabric, so it's tuff, it has a handle, and a non-slip bottom. With the two in one set up, I actually save some square inches. Very happy.
I would also recommend it as a coffee press for those who would endelge. It's well built and the plunger has a double seal to keep the grains out.
