What this tent is not: expensive
That being said, this is a 5-star, inexpensive pop-up tent.
My husband and I used this tent to camp in Zion National Park this last weekend. I had planned for this tent to, hopefully, sleep four since the description says "Spacey Enough For A Family". My 3 year-old ended up sleeping in her Aunt's tent and my Husband slept in the car. The problem was he is 6'6" and our 6 month-old likes to sleep horizontally. So, this is a two-man tent, no "family size" about it. The two of us could have very comfortably slept in this tent w/o the kids. It would be quite spacious for one person.
Set up is a breeze, it literally "pops-up".
The material is thin, I could see my 3 year-old playing around the camp right through the walls (no problems w/others seeing in through the walls). However, it held up to very gusty winds with only the 4 ground stakes, we didn't take the time to attach four anchor strings that attach to the top supports. It did get very hot in the direct sun (note the blanket over the back end in the photo I uploaded). It would be nice if there were another mesh panel beside the door for better ventilation.
The bottom is a tarp material, seems durable enough.
I cannot attest to the degree to which it handles rain, though I wouldn't be surprised if it was somewhat water resistant.
Both girls just love to play in the tent. My 3 year-old thinks it just great and loves going in and out. I like to zip my 6-month-old in to play, while keeping her out of things, while I'm doing chores. My 3 year-old can go in and out and play with the baby too. This tent will be great for a backyard camp out.
Inexpensive, Highly Portable, Quick Set-Up, Sleeps 2 comfortably.
This would only be good to use if you want a play tent to use indoors and not in any practical way.
PROS: The bottom is tarp material which will hold up. I always put a tarp under my tent and hang one over it if rain is forcasted and felt totally safe with this tent. Set up can be measured in seconds. Remove it from the bag it came in and it is a tent. Period. Stake it down. You are done.
CONS: The bag it comes in sucks because the zipper breaks and it isnt sturdy. But you don't camp in the bag so who cares? Just throw it away and tie a bungie around it when it is back in it's circle shape. It folds down to a circle that is too big to carry into the backwoods on a long hike - maybe 24" circumfrence circle. Can't fit that in a backpack for sure.
Love it. It is cute and simple and durable enough for car pull up type camping for several seasons.
That being said, it's a little disappointing as a product, with poor finish, flimsy construction and questionable packaging. The tent came in its bag in a flattened and taped cardboard box. It has no receipt, nor any paperwork from GSI about the product. It has a typed sheet of "instructions" with obvious, unprofessional spelling errors. Neither the tent nor the bag has any marking indicating it is actually a GSI product.
The floor is tarp, which will be useful when setting up outside.
I wanted a free standing pop up tent so that I could create a child-safe environment no matter where we were with minimal set up and take down, and it does this (Sort of a portable play-pen that I could set up inside or outside and be able to play with my child inside).
I would only camp in this on a night when I was comfortable camping under the stars. It is very thin, so as a sun shelter it's quite questionable. I think it'll be hotter in the tent than in direct sunlight, as the only ventilation is through the door window.
I am concerned about the longevity of the product, but I think I'll get my $30 worth. I kind of wish I'd looked around a little more and found a higher quality product that would have more diverse uses and last longer.
