I suppose this is my own fault for not asking, but this watch does not have a built-in heart rate monitor. It comes with a chest strap. I use it to monitor my heart rate while I exercise, but it is not practical for me to wear the chest strap all the time. You do have to slightly moisten the sensors on the chest strap for it to accurately register your heart rate. As a side note, sometimes when I wake up in the morning, the display is off. I am not sure if this is intentional - some sort of battery saving feature. Overall, the watch works well. I ended up ordering a different watch with a built-in heart rate monitor as I need to check mine several times a day. If you are looking to monitor during exercise or do not mind wearing the chest strap, this would probably meet your needs!

Can't believe the cheapest one I ever bought is the best one! I have spent between $20 and $60 for these. I have a cardiac condition, but still do Kung Fu after 7 years of training and I have to know my heart rate during jumping, kicking, etc. Every other one I have gotten broke within 4 months. This one is still pretty new, so not sure on this part. The worst thing with the others is they had no instructions on how to change the battery when it died and then if you took them apart they never worked again.

This one comes with the ability to change the batteries easily and instructions on how to do it. It does require you wear the chest strap to use the heart monitor, but since I only care my heart rate during intense exercise, that works out fine, especially since in my experience the chest strap monitors are more accurate and keep the signal better during my workout.

Thank Kinger for a heart monitor watch that actually let's you use it beyond the life of one battery!

I wasn't impressed with this heart rate monitor the first couple of days. I wet the sensors on the chest strap with a little water as per the instructions, but I was getting horribly inaccurate readings. I think the water was drying out too fast. I decided to purchase some water based lubricant and began spreading a little bit on the sensors before putting the chest strap on. Since then the readings have been VERY accurate throughout my entire workouts!

I also discovered that my LifeSpan TR1200i treadmill can read the data from the chest strap. While I could let the treadmill auto-adjust to keep me at my desired heart rate, I find I prefer using the heart rate monitor. It allows me to define a good range to stay within and sounds two quick beeps if I'm above my range, and one beep if I'm below. If I hear it beeping too much one way or the other, I just make a slight adjustment to my speed. It works great! The only downside is that the calorie counter on the heart monitor seems quite low. Perhaps this is because it doesn't take your age and weight into account. My treadmill seems to calculate a bit high though, so I just take the average of the two and it seems to work out pretty good.

* Extremely affordable
* Seems very accurate (So long as sensors are really wet!)
* High and low range alerts work well to stay in target zone
* Easy to use (good instructions)
* Works with the LifeSpan TR1200i treadmill

* Sensors MUST be really wet! (recommend using a water based lubricant on chest strap sensors)
* Plastic chest strap becomes a bit uncomfortable during long workouts
* Watch is a bit uncomfortable, but bearable
* Calorie counter seems a bit low (doesn't take age and weight into account)

Overall I think this is a great buy for the price! It's easy to use and very accurate when the sensors are really wet.

Amazing value at 1/2 the cost of many others- works well and seems accurate (I compared it to medical sources), lots of functions. Has back light, auto off function, stop watch, high low ranges etc. Seems pretty well made, mostly plastic. However it won't win any fashion contests. Instructions are well written for a Chinese product, some weird word usages but generally comprehensible ( in VERY tiny print) . It shows time, full date, and heart rate on the home screen, no need to change screens to check these, unlike the last brand I had. I found the chest transmitter is compatible with some monitors built into commercial exercise equipment at my gym so you don't even need the watch to view your heart rate on these machines, just the chest strap.

The heart monitor readout is small compared to the time display. As I got this primarily as a heart monitor, I would have liked it larger.
It sometimes takes a bit to get the initial readout, wet the pads well. After you start sweating, works well.

It neither claims to be nor would I expect it to be water resistant.

As noted in other reviews (thank you), this comes with a chest strap transmitter- a pretty common arrangement, but this is abundantly not clear from the image or description- this a fault of the seller, not the watch, though.

It is very cheaply made. The band was broke inside the case. Functions are not good either. I don't think it is right to sell things like this. Buyers pay for S&H to receive it, and then when it comes already broke, or if it breaks in the warranty period, we have to pay to ship it back for a refund or replacement. How is this right? In my opinion, I think things like this are being sold knowing people won't return them because it costs the buyer more to return and since it wasn't "a lot of money" we forgo the stress of taking time out of our schedules to get to the post office, box it up, and pay to return it. In all the years I have been buying things on line, this seems to be getting worse. This is why I was hesitant years ago not to buy something without actually having it in my hands or at least in the store viewing it. That is what I am going to return to for things like this, it just isn't worth all the aggravation!

Super disappointed when I got it. It comes with a chest strap you have to wear in order for the heart monitor to work and that isn't mentioned anywhere in the picture or description! Also, you can't turn off the beep while the "high/low" zone modes are on, which is really annoying. But, its still better than having to stop and put your fingers on a sensor so it could be worse.

It came as two pieces; awrist watch and a chest wrap. I see nothing in the sales pitch about he chest wrap. lso it has to touch the skin so it must be under the shirt. I'm 95 withvery limited arm and finger dexterity. Simply not suited for me. I like the watch but the instruction printing is much too small for my eyes. My son tried it once but we didn't get it operatiing for me.
I want a heart monitor that is simple to use, and I don't need much beyond that, although some the other measurements would be useful. How do I return the item?

Two months after I bought this for my brother in law, he had a heart episode from his new blood pressure meds. It gave them data to give to the nurse and she had them drive directly to the emergency room. He's the kind of macho guy who would deny anything was wrong until it's too late - but this convinced him to do the right thing and it probably saved his life! He's now wearing an expensive heart monitor that's hooked up directly to a cell phone & the hospital - but this is the one that got him in to be tested in time.

I've been using this for a couple of years and it has held up well. I do ranch and const. work and the watch has taken a licking but it keeps on ticking. Unusual band which will be hard to replace but good product otherwise.
