This is one review from Sears website:

"If it were not for the one problem that I had with this machine I would have given it 5 stars. It does an excellent job of cleaning the clothes and has a large capacity. It is also very quiet. The problem is that the dryer damaged the clothes due to a badly designed seal between the rotating dryer drum and the stationary front pannel. This was a problem that another review wrote about but I decided to get the machine any way. Small buttons (the ones on the front of button down shirts) and drawstrings (like on sweat pants and hooded sweatsherts) get caught in the unsually large gap in the front seal. The repair technition that came out and looked at my machine was VERY supprised at such a large gap. When he called back to where ever he called they told him that there had only been one official report of this type of damage to clothes. The fix for the issue was to tilt the machine backwards. He did this and so far I have not had any more damaged clothes. However, in my opnion this should only be a temporary fix and I am hoping that GE is redesigning the front seal and will issue a recall to fix the machines already in service. Tipping the machine is not a fix for a design flaw. Also, the installiation instructions state that the machine should be level for operation so I don't know if the tilting will cause damage to other parts of the machine (like the washer) over time. The loads that had damage to my clothes were a small load and a medium load so the dryer was definitely not over loaded."

This is 100% accurate, please keep in mind of this issue. I have yet to try the tilt thing, but I hope this works because I can't continue to deal with damaged clothes.

I lived in an apartment complex with "energy-efficient" front-loading washers and dryers. The washers were okay, but never could hold more than a "medium" load. If I tried to fit a larger load into them, the clothes would come out still dirty.

However, we just got a new townhouse that came with this model. Not only did it take up an extremely small amount of space, but the different selections I could choose made me happy (i.e., Fabric softner? Auto-sensing water level?) So I started to load up my first load and, after puting in quite a few things, what would've filled our old washers, it was only half way!!!

Basically, I was able to do two loads in one. By the time I filled the washer to the "load" mark, I had loaded what would've been two loads in the energy-efficient washers. And everything came out CLEAN!!!

We did wind up splitting the load of laundry into two dryer loads, just to see how long they would take. The lint trap works great, soooo many settings on the dryer, and it's pretty quiet.

The only downside would be that the washer is slightly loud, but that could also be the way the laundry room is set up, it seemed to echo.

I would def recommend this unit. I really enjoy doing laundry now because of it!!!!

I have the same dryer problem mentioned in another review. I've had 3 shirts with thin straps that have caught, twisted out of shape and eventually tore off the strap. I've had about 5 pairs of pants or hoodies with drawstrings that had the same thing happen, and we've had 2 shirts where the buttons were torn off. We've tried large and small loads. We've tried all the dryer settings. I haven't tried tilting the dryer back like the other reviewer mentioned, but I'm definitely going to because I'm pretty upset about my damaged clothes, and I'm not able to purchase a replacement at this time or I would.

The washer is great, no problems there, however I would not purchase this combo again.

I just had a $634.00 repair bill on a 2 year old unit. The first unit delivered was replaced the first week I had it. Had to replace the washing machine tub support assembly, bearing and seals. I know of 4 other units like this with similar repairs. GE says they don't know about any problems! To say I am disappointed in GE is an understatement!

There is a lot that goes into a washer/dryer like this. I'll say what I like first... large capacity, spin cycle remove lots of excess water which reduces dry time, dries quickly (at least for now while it's new), no buzzer on dry cycle (if you like that).

Here's the problems I found: the day after I bought the first one it broke down. The second one was installed and sure enough there are issues. The washer makes more gulping and clicking sounds than any other new washer I've owned. The dryer has sharp plastic edges that could destroy your laundry and create snags. I compared it to my friend's dryer and this is completely a flaw and inferior design! Also, there is in fact a large horizontal gap on the underside of the lint holder. I haven't washed any button downs but I can definitely see how buttons can get stuck in that gap as other reviews have stated. Overall too many problems. I bought this due to the exact sizing I needed but if I were to do it again I would get a different unit.

I bought it brand new from Lowe's. The washer broke three months after one year warranty ran out. Lowe's said it would cost me $79.00 for the tech to come. I said OK. The Tech said it would cost me around $280 to fix. I paid it to get it fixed but will never buy another GE product again. G.E. makes very poor quality product, at least the consumer line!
