Enjoyed reading this book. Well written and was hard to put down! a true romance story in real life. A great read.

This is a moving overview of Gable and Lombards lives together and how they became a couple. It also goes a little further with Gable's life after her death. I would encourage those interested to get a good biography on each and read it afterwards to better understand their lives, their love, and their loss. Good book, easy read, and doesn't weigh the reader down with facts and figures.

A love story. Disappointing that he cheated on her so much. Yrs ago I read his bio & don't remember any mention of that. He was happy only with her & tried to replace her with his last 2 wives . It was an unfortunate decision to fly home. The plane was overweight with extra people so they couldn't clear the mountains. I recommend this book.

For the story of two supposedly dynamic actors, this lacks energy and was flat. The restrained accounting of his infidelity was too respectful. He was a jerk who cheated on his loving, loyal wife. He had a strong on screen persona but no one has ever claimed he was a great actor. Overall, I give this a "C."

I truly enjoyed reading about Gable and Lombard. Having visited Oatman, AZ, many years ago, my girlfriends and I peeked into the very small little bedroom that the two spent the night of their honeymoon in at the Oatman Hotel. (This was not mentioned in the book which stated that after being married in Kingman, AZ, they immediately returned to CA) Whenever I pass the We-Ask-U Inn in Rogue River. Oregon, I think of the two spending a few days there. So my thoughts often wander to the two of them and wish that they had had more time together.

A wonderful biography of a legendary Hollywood couple. There were many insights into the times, the movies both were working on, how the Hollywood studio system played out.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
Only four stars because I felt there should have been more photos.

I've read this book at least 3 times. I have the hardcover which my sister bought from a library sale at least 35 years ago, and she gave it to me to read and keep if I wanted...well, I'll say I did!! I already knew and loved Gable, but as a young woman in her twenties I just fell in love with Carole Lombard..she had a real beauty inside and out, humor, wit and wisdom, generosity. Perfect without being perfect. Well, 35 years ago she became my favorite actress and famous person. That hasn't changed.

And this book started that off

The author covered slot of ground. He made each chapter a page turner! Great book but no pictures of the famous couple. My rating is a four because of no pictures. Ingrid Creager

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent read of decades long past
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on June 23, 2018
Really enjoyed this book ........... not overlong and well written. Lombard was a complete sweetheart (altho she would swear like a trooper) and her so premature loss deprived the film world of a talent who would surely have kept on developing and fascinating movie watchers. Gable was one of the best - but as other reviewers have observed, was never the same after the death of Lombard. The 'King' still had needs to satisfy though - and that was never a problem to him (plenty of willing volunteers in line!). The final tragedy for him was that he would never see the child he so dearly wanted and was denied in his partnership with Carole

I couldn't put this down. Not a very long book but very engrossing. Interesting well written details. Wow, what a life these old time stars lived. An always interesting era those dirty thirties.
