We also meet Yinyanni, a ruler of the trading commission in one of the sectors we are introduced to. We are also introduced to the “Neverborn”, Ulzarad. This creature is supposed to be feared above all others, a myth that has come into reality.
Gaebrael’s path leads him to strike a deal with Yinyanni to recover a ship. She is reluctant to agree to Gabreal’s suggestion, however, the Neverborn urges her to allow it.
Through this course of action, he decides to steal some of the cargo on this ship. Yinyanni is outraged, and starts a war.
The writer could have elaborated more on certain details through the story. There were many times that he did not clarify what happened that left me confused. An example of this is on page 87 “ The details of what happened next were spoken of only in whispers, even by the most hardened Corsairs. Certainly no one with sense questioned her authority afterward, unless he had a sudden urge to see his ancestors.” However, we were not provided with said details. What did Yinyanni do that was so outrageous? Why should we fear her?
I think this story line has a lot of potential to be an excellent read. I would strongly suggest that the writer employ an editor for the next installment though. The rhythm of the story would benefit greatly with improved grammar and overall structure.
This was an incredibly unique adventure story that only got more exciting as it went on. I love Gaebrel's sarcasm and quick wit, and I can't wait to see what adventures (and trouble!) he and his friends'll get into next! :D
I did take off a star for some editing issues that I found throughout the book. There were many misplaced or missing punctuation marks, and sometimes it was difficult to tell when the point of view had switched, because there was no break to indicate it. I also found it a little strange that names for some of the races of characters (Ursuhli, for example) were not capitalized. I do not know if these errors were present because it was an e-ARC or not.
All in all, I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a fun and unique adventure! I can't wait to read the next one! :D
I received a copy of this book from the author and have not been compensated for this honest review.
