I gave the book four stars because I understand this is the author's first and I'm expecting even more from his next novel!
What a sophisticated but smooth story plot full of twists! It's an intriguing thriller made up of war criminals in WWII and modern people. This exciting treasure hunting adventure in the wild east captures my attention throughout with its very interesting and vivid details of the characters and the history and cultures of some of the Asian countries in the era. "Art" is depicted in a dark and evil manner that will absorb you when you read it. I won't go deep into this book, find it out yourself.
The Japanese politicians' recent comments made the story even more authentic. It's so real.
It is the first book of the author and I am expecting his second one.
I enjoyed this very fast paced action/thriller that has a plethora of quite different and engaging characters. Valerie Benson is a good time girl who has troubling with relationships and always runs when life gets too difficult but as the story progresses Val discovers that she has a backbone and ideals.
It's quite a convoluted thriller with some historical detail. It's also rich and descriptive. It's violent in places but the action scenes are well presented.
There were a few discrepancies plotwise and it wasn't always a seamless delivery. There were some errors, when Val and Suki were leaving Japan, Suki states that the map is in her bank but on the next page she talks of putting the map and money in the bank. There are a few places where sentences weren't completed which was irksome but it wasn't enough to get in the way of a rollicking good story at all.
Overall it was a fast and gripping read......I loved the title, it was what initially caught and held my interest.
