So I had some questions about this product and couldn't find much online about it, but I did find the company's website and a number to call. The number went straight through to a live person, who answered my questions. He said that this moss is dyed with a gentle, non-toxic food dye. He said if it is very wet it is possible it may stain things, and that can be prevented by rinsing it a bit to remove excess dye. He did also say the moss is not from the Galapagos islands, as they have very strict laws about exporting from there. That being said, I used it in my bioactive gecko enclosure in a moist hide. I have a bowl of wet peat with a hide on top as a humid hide and wet this in filtered tap water and put it on top of the peat. It looks very attractive and natural and is soft. The bag is large and the price is great. I am docking a star because I wish some of the excess dye was removed before packaging so people wouldn't have the staining problems, but overall I am very satisfied.

I have been using this for going on two years and have never had a single issue with staining. I use it in a bioactive tank and have never had any signs of toxicity from my reptile nor my bugs. I continue to be happy with it, and along with my plants provides a pop of color.

The product was caked in dust and sticks and leaf matter and even a few mushrooms. I used the mushrooms for my terrarium so its was kinda cool but not what I wanted. I was expecting clean green moss. After soaking it was still dirty looking. That was the only issue but overall I was happy.
