Great radio with retro look

Very pleased with this rig, particularly with the on-board SWR meter and how the unit took to my existing antenna. I use a 5/8's Firestick antenna and had trouble tuning it to my old CB (1.6 : 1 was the best I could achieve), but when I plugged into the new Galaxy, the SWR immediately jumped down to 1.1 : 1! I thought it was too good to be true, but then verified with my external SWR meter and confirmed the reading.

Other drivers tell me my modulation is very clean and crisp with the stock microphone. And being an older guy, I still very much prefer the well-lit large analog meters over digital ones.

Could be the last mobile rig I will purchase.

Galaxy it’s the best am/sideband radio bar none it gets 5 stars in every category by me. I recommend them to all my friends and fellow drivers. All my friends have bought Galaxy Radios they love them thanks again Louis Gilbert Arizona.

The radio worked great for about four months, then I started getting intermittent reception, I took it to a repair shop and they found some circuit traces had lifted from the board. Not really any way to fix that.

I purchased this radio after having to return another brand of radio I purchased that was not functioning properly.
The Galaxy DX 949 is very cost effective and it has everything you could ask for on a CB/Sideband Radio. It seems to be a well built radio that has been time-proven for durabulity.
The built in SWR is great, it has a self calibration feature that gives you a quick SWR reading without the hassle of recalibrating for each channel checked.
The Power Wattage output feature is a breeze as well and compliments the adjustable wattage output function.
The radio has three different LED's to let you know about possible antenna/SWR problems, Rodger Beep on/off and one that changes color from red to green when broadcasting or recieving.
There are a lot of knobs and toggle switches to get used to and several of the knobs function as a on-off push buttons for other functions. After a bit of use a person can operate this radio without having to search for or look at the radio to make adjustments.
The large analog style meter is easy to read and seems like it gives more precise readouts than the digital style meters.
The radio also has the "Galaxy Noise Filter" in addition to the standard two function noise reducing feature. Other CBers I talk to respond with commenting on how clear the output signal is.
I am very pleased to have gone with the decision to go "Galaxy".

I am so sad. I got this as a present for my fiancé . He is truck driver. But when he connected it to his truck the Chanel indicator never got on. That's a really an issues because he can not see with Chanel is the radio on. Now I have to return the item .

Nice radio, My last Galaxy did not have ssb That's why I got this one. I found out that wile I'm traveling in the RV that a lot of Truckers use ssb.
I use both radios. I got a Galaxy radio because I had one in the late 70s and it lasted forever.
