Mineral Stone Case Replacement for Zen Water Filter Systems
by Zen Water Online
If you notice the description clearly says " by Zen Water Online" and it is really made by Purenex. In very tiny letters, Amazon has s place to click for "other sellers" and that is where you will find the one really made by Zen Water (which is $5 Less). The fact that the product description is misleading and possibly fraudelant is not the only problem, according to the reviews I have read (over 25), the filter made by Purenex is simply not the same quality as the one made by Zen Water. Please be careful when you buy this excellent Filter. The only complaints I found about this water filtration system were due to people mistakenly buying this filter.
I buy and will continue to buy many items from Amazon and this is the first ethical lapse I personally have encoutered and I hope Amazon reverts back to keeping its very high ethical standards.
The Zen Water system arrived within a few days of ordering it. My order included both the 4 gallon dispenser and countertop models.
I was able to set the countertop model up with about 20 minutes, after reading the cryptic documentation. However, a picture is worth a thousand words, and based on the picture, I was able to set it up.
When I opened the box, I was surprised to discover that both items were in the same box, so I had to sort through the contents very carefully.
Needless to say, it is now sitting on my countertop. It took about 20 minutes before I could see some water coming into the dispensing chamber. When it was about 1 quarter full, I tried tasting the water, and I have to admit, I was not impressed. However, I waited until the chamber was completely full, and it tasted very good. The water has a very smooth taste and I don't taste any powder or residue from going through the filtration process or that I experienced using the Pur water filter.
I tried comparing the water taste with water from several other systems: from my faucet, Brita and Pur water filters. The Zen Water system tasted significantly different. The water from my faucet made me think that I was drinking pure chlorine, the water from the Brita and Pur filter tastes like there was chauky it, but the water from the Zen Water Filtration system had no odor, and was very easy to drink.Read more ›
-It is not tasteless like many claim, but clean and crisp. It tastes just like the "minerals added for taste" bottled waters. If you want to know what I'm talking about, buy a bottle of Dasani or SmartWater and test it against something tasteless like Fuji or distilled. If you prefer the tasteless variety, order the mineral-free filter from their website.
-The water tastes so good I drink more without even realizing it.
-pH was the same immediately after filtering the night I set it up. The next morning, it had raised .2. In the afternoon, it was another .2 higher. The longer the water is in contact with the mineral stones, the higher the pH. This does seem to be a slow process though. I wish it alkalized faster, as we have acid tap water.
-It can be used with or without the base.
-The tap lever can be pushed back to dispense like a fountain drink dispenser, or flipped up to stay open.
-The magnetic tap that comes with the 4-gallon model is actually the nut that holds the tap on. It's longer than the regular one and doesn't leave room for the mineral stone case to sit neatly in the ring made for it. However, you can scatter the stones on the bottom, which actually looks nicer.
-The bottom tank is 3 gallons and the top tank is 1 gallon. (See website for tank sizes)
-Instructions say not to overfill, so I only fill top tank when bottom tank is one-third empty. It does take a while to filter but since it can hold so much it's not so bad.
-Initial setup takes some time.Read more ›
But I was game; I bought the 8-gallon model, and I waited at the door with a PH meter to tackle the first challenge: would the Zen, in fact, increase the PH of the water? If it didn't, it was going back. If it did, the earned credibility would help me more readily accept the other claims of this water filter system.
The unit arrived in two days and I was already prepared by other reviewers that it takes a little time to tinker the unit together, boil pebbles, scrub the dome, and rinse the 5-compartment mineral stack for 15 minutes. Sure, it's not exactly 'plug and play,' but if this system did what it claimed, it would be worth it.
I then followed the manufacturer's directive to DISCARD THE FIRST TWO FULL TANKS of water that filtered through it. But I cheated, I took a teeny taste of Zen water after the first tank filtered through. Yuck! It tasted like rocks! This was discouraging, but I proceeded with allowing the second tank to filter through. (By the way, this took two days. That's not a complaint; I was already prepared, again by reviewers and the manufacturer that water takes time to filter through the Zen -- about 2 hours per gallon. So with an 8-gallon unit flushed twice at 2 hours a gallon, the math is simple. But this really isn't a problem once you're up and operating: you just start filtering water when you go to bed and you'll have more than you'll need the next morning.Read more ›
