Nathan left the Las Vegas Vice Squad because of a sting that went very wrong and he blames himself. He now works at The Onyx Casino is LV in security. He also helps in a privately hired group called the Reliance Group that takes on cases other groups can't pursue legally.
Nicole is a journalist, who got badly burned in a relationship in college, and no longer trusts her own judgement in men. She wants relevant major news to report on and keeps getting stuck with trends stories. She is writing about speed dating when she meets Nathan who went as a favor for a friend.
They have an agreed on one night sizzling time with no strings attached. Nicole sneaks out in the early morning to avoid the day after awkwardness, and accidentally spills a file on the Reliant Group's current case. She sees a shot at her breaking story and a way to stop the cycle of girls pulled onto a powerful and wealthy pedophile's (Preston's) trap.
They each try to get close to Preston their own way, when they discover the other ones involvement. In the end, they go undercover together, and that is where the bulk of the story begins.
This book covers sensitive subjects well, but pulls on your emotions in the process. There is lots of action and suspense. The slow growing trust and caring between the hero and heroine is realistic and draws you into their story.
Everyone has regrets, Nathan's regret is a mission gone bad and not being able to save everyone. So when he is given the mission to rescue a runaway, he won't stop until it's completed and with everyone alive. Everything is going smooth until he meets Nicole. Then he has this added attraction to someone he wasn't prepared for. That's not the moment that intertwines their lives. When Nathan is undercover and he runs into Nicole as Nikki, he has to figure out what she is doing and why is she where he is.
Nicole is a reporter. She likes her job, but she wants to do more. After meeting Nathan during speed dating and reading a folder not meant for her, she has found the story she wants to write. But there is always more to the story than what you can read on paper, so after running into Nathan and learning he is undercover she lessens that things aren't what they seem.
I loved Nathan and Nicole's story. It has to be one of my favorites in this new series by Erika Wilde and I can't wait to keep reading the stories in this series.
Nathan Fox is a security expert, ex-Marine and Vice Cop, and a member of the Reliance Group. Nathan is given an assignment that will make him face his fears. Nicole Hutton, a journalist who is given an assignment to write about a Speed Dating event. Nathan and Nicole meet at the event and their chemistry is off the charts. Nathan and Nicole are afraid of intimacy and looking for just sex, and they hook up. Nicole stumbles across the case Nathan is assigned and it brings back hurtful memories. She decides to go undercover to expose Preston for the horrific man he is. Neither expect to see each other after their night together, and meet again while they are both undercover. Nathan knows how dangerous Preston is and he doesn't want Nicole anywhere near his assignment. Both of the characters are stubborn, have strong convictions about rescuing the client, and decide to work together. Each of them have something in their past that drives their desire to do everything that is necessary to be successful.
