I love this book! The photos, which cover all the Grand Slams, are excellent. There is a great introduction and there are good quotes from top players (past and present) interspersed throughout the book. The quality of the binding, paper, and printing is also quite good. Some notes about the photos: it appears that most or all photos are taken from the past 5 years. You won't find anything from the Sampras/Agassi era or earlier. Some of the best photos in the book involve court surfaces. Rolland Garros in particular stands out. You'll also find Nadal is particularly well represented.

I'm very glad I bought this book and will appreciate its images for many years to come!

I guess I was hoping for more pictures. Several of the pictures in this book take up two pages. They are almost too enlarged to enjoy. Some pictures like closeups of someone's sweaty back or the side of their head could have been edited out in my opinion. I did like how the book follows the four Grand Slams in order. It gives you a good feel for the 2010 season. This book is just okay.

Mike Powell spent a year doing what most tennis fans would love to do: attend every Grand Slam event. From Rod Laver Stadium's blue courts in Melbourne to the red clay of Roland Garros in Paris to the green of Wimbeldon then culminating in green and blue at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York, Powell's fine eye and camera captured time, players, people, emotions and tennis action in stunningly beautiful shots from close-ups to wide angles. There are comments, phrases and thoughts of pro players to compliment and even augment the photos. No matter if you've had a personal Grand Slam by attending all four, visiting one or another or just, like most of us, by watching the action on television this book should be on your coffe table.

A resident at a local nursing home, put on his wish list "a photo book on tennis". I'm sure he was excited to receive this one. I looked through it quickly and really thought the photos were beautiful.

This is a great coffee table book for the total tennis enthusiast/fan. Even if you're just a casual fan, it's still worth a look, especially if you enjoy excellent sports photography. Unlike "The Open Book, Celebrating 40 Years of America's Grand Slam", which I highly recommend, "A Game to Love" only covers current players. So, there's no coverage of the previous generation of American (& international) players. But, all in all, it's still a very good photo documentary of current tennis. I do like "The Open Book" better though. Either one of these books would make a great gift for the tennis nut.

Words that come particularly to mind while looking at these beautiful pictures: strength, solitude, and especially focus. Mike Powell, with his eye for detail, has created a very powerful book. Any downside for me were the photographs that tennis players are aware of their surroundings. This took away my concentration. But anyway a very nice book to pick up regurlarly.
