In the last 55 years or so, I have thousands of books but only one of them have I read twice- this one. It is a great insider analysis of both camps' activities but its power is its summary of the Clinton family history of corruption that has characterized their entire public life. It is shocking. It covers decades and lays bare the ruthlessness and greed of two power mad politicians who figured out early that politics is the pipeline to Fort Knox. That is, if you are as smart, tough, morally low, cruel and cold blooded as the Clintons. The frightening part is their willingness to destroy any and all who threatened their path of progress to wealth and power, whether the legions of Bill's sex partners or Hillary's team of power partners who surrounded her throughout her political career. To say that they refined the art of personal destruction is an understatement- they turned it into an art form. One of the most chilling chapters described all the people Bill Clinton pardoned on his last week or so in office. Criminals, terrorists, tax evaders- people that law enforcement had spent years chasing, capturing and prosecuting- enemies of America- all to garner votes for Hillary's political future.
I don't want to detail all the lurid intrigue here. If you have any interest in politics and wonder how the country has sunk so low that people like this can rule-that's their view, not govern- this nation, read this book.

Review
"Read this compelling book to find out why she lost and he won-an outcome that will prove to be best for our nation."―Gary J. Byrne, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Crisis of Character
"A great book... GAME OF THORNS gets you behind the scenes...I mean REALLY behind the scenes. Doug is respected by everybody...so he has access to everybody....It's going to be a best seller. I don't care if you're left or right on this... it's an amazing tick-tock of what went wrong and it is from a presidential historian -- not some cockamamie person."―Neil Cavuto, Cavuto Coast to Coast
"GAME OF THORNS is a fascinating study of 2016 US presidential elections. Wead busts all myths created and supported by what has come to be known as fake news. Wead convincingly shows that President Trump won the elections because of a superior strategy in spite of all odds in favor of Hillary Clinton. GAME OF THORNS is a deeply researched book and provides deep insight into the election strategies of both President Trump and Hillary Clinton, as well as the American election system. GAME OF THORNS is the best book on the 2016 presidential elections and is likely to remain so in the future. It is a must read to understand American politics."―The Washington Book Review

About the Author
DOUG WEAD is one of the few living historians to have written about all of the American presidents. From Washington to Obama, he is an expert on presidential families. His book, All the President Children, which covered the presidents and their families, was a New York Times bestseller.
Wead has been an employee of ten presidential campaigns. He began as a writer for Ronald Reagan in 1979. In 1989 George H.W. Bush brought him on to senior staff at the White House as special assistant to the president and, most recently, he served as a senior adviser to Senator Rand Paul.
He is a regular TV commentator on everything First Family related and he's been a guest throughout the election process on Fox News, MSNBC and CNN and a commentator during the national conventions. He has been on The Today Show ten times. He's been interviewed by Matt Lauer, Lester Holt, Norah O'Donnell, and Andrea Mitchell. All the major journalists on CBS have featured him in televised segments from Dan Rather to Katie Couric to Charlie Rose. He has been interviewed by Diane Sawyer of ABC and the late, British news icon, David Frost.

I was reluctant to read another book about the election but this book is informative and well written. The book does more than refresh your memory about the race as it goes into the backgrounds of both candidates.
Wead provides details on old and largely forgotten scandals involving the Clintons including Tyson Foods, Whitewater, Travelgate, Filegate, Vince Foster, Chinagate, Pardongate, and all the sexual assault charges plus Monica Lewinsky. Chinagate is particularly relevant today as the media is treating the Russian-influence issue as something unprecedented. Chinagate in the 1990s involved millions laundered from the Chinese government to the DNC and the Clintons. At least 21 were convicted of violating election laws but the Clintons managed to escape.
Wead makes two revealing observations about the race with the first being character. Hillary tried to make character an issue by claiming Trump was temperamentally unfit (because he didn't act like a career politician). But two-thirds of the public (CNN poll) believed her to be dishonest and untrustworthy so her character ended up being the bigger issue.
The second was leadership where Wead explains that a person claiming leadership qualities must earn them. Hillary was touted as having outstanding leadership qualities due to her positions as First Lady, Senator, and Secretary of State. But she would have gotten none of these without Bill Clinton so her leadership was not really earned. No one had any trouble identifying Trump's leadership qualities.
A critical point was when NBC launched its October Surprise against Trump with the Access Hollywood tape 48 hours before the second presidential debate. Trump responded quickly by bringing four of Bill's sexual assault victims to the debate. The result was basically a wash.
Wead was a special assistant in the first Bush White House so he has a lot experience. He supports Trump but this book gives a lot of valuable information to any reader.

This book was interesting and fun to read. To be sure, it's written from a pro-Trump POV so know that going in and don't waste your money if that's going to be your complaint. Anyway, I lived through the Bill Clinton years and the scandals it brought and Donald Trump and his personal dramas were also things I knew about because he always lived so publically. Many of the stories were familiar but I'd mostly forgotten the details so it was good to see them presented here since I was always one of those people who was totally against Hillary being POTUS or seeing any of the Clintons in a position of power without being able to express exactly why. It's all here though and it feels good to be reminded. There was enough new-to-me info to keep it fresh. Near the end of the book the author devotes a couple of pages to highlighting how celebrities of all stripes reacted to Trump and it's mind blowing how low society has sunk, to hold these vile and nasty people up on a pedestal is a disgrace and makes no logical sense! I got physically ill seeing it all in print and I can't believe we accept this kind of thing from people, even praise it! The inmates really were running the asylum but thankfully we caught a break and, for awhile anyway, control has been regained.

couldn't put it down,, got it Sunday (thank you, Prime) and finished it Monday.. to me it was the David and Goliath story of our lifetime,, how the "Clinton Machine" with all it's money and resources, wall street, Hollywood, celebrities, silicon valley, a sitting president, his popular first lady, a former president (her husband) and a willing "mainstream" media supporting her with it endless attacks on her opponent could be taken down by a political novice.... was he a knight in shining armor? hell no, probably the lesser of two evils. but that was good enough for me and this book confirmed my suspicions.

Only when trump was ahead in the poles was he a racist etc . The Clinton's ordered the now established Russian pee gate investigation . The Clinton creature was found to be reckless as best of handling classified information . Clinton factually promised war with Iran and to shoot down Russian planes . The left's alternative facts through left wing media .

As expected, this is a partisan alt-right perspective on the election campaign written by a fauning sycophant. I knew that when I bought it however. It is useful however to understand the alternative facts universe which is out there in play. It also worked as a short course revision summary of some of the less savoury aspects of the Clintons (lest we forget). Another candidate next time please Democrats.
