Well, you would think that a book that I connected with on a soul-deep level would be the most easy review I've ever written. But you would be wrong. I have loved every book in this series, so it's no surprise that I loved this one, but Jake and Scarlett's story had me looking inside myself, and that can be scary. I was lucky enough to be a beta reader for Game Winner, so I've had LOTS of time to think about this. And I think I've finally got my feelings in order.

First, I was amazed at just how deeply I connected with Jake. It's not often that I have much in common with a male main character because, well, I'm a girl. But Jake...his dad is a minister, and at the same time Jake is a professional baseball player. At one point he describes himself as feeling like he's living two seperate lives, and that it doesn't feel like they can both be a part of the same one life. And I immediately started crying, because I feel the exact same way about myself. (Not that I'm a professional athlete, but still.) I often feel like the spiritual, Bible studying, church-going part of my life couldn't possibly be part of the same life where I help erotica writers get their books to publication. As some of you may know, I never share things from my blog on my personal Facebook page, even though I could probably expand my blog's readership by leaps and bounds that way...because my family, and members of my church family, are friends with me on Facebook. I still haven't figured out how to balance these things out, but I'll just keep re-reading this book, and try to follow what Jake did.

Second, from the first pages of this book I thought, "There's no way I'm going to be able to connect with Scarlett." She's a pop star who tends to look like sex on a stick, and that is SO not me.

This was one of those book that you just have to keep reading, starting from the beginning, the moment Scarlett Moore sung the national anthem, that had the hairs on my arms stood – I think I could hear her sing by just reading the words. Let’s not forget the gala. It was really epic. Out of character for our dear Jake, but believeable. (this was one of my early favorite scene in the book #squirmmoments).

Who wouldn’t love Jake? He’s a Christian (and stood by his faith, without preaching), he doesn’t drink alcohol, he’s respectful to women, and he’s compassionate. But at the same time – he’s great in bed, sexy and never boring. He just had some secrets and walls surrounding it. It took him a while to finally open up and spill his secret. My heart just broke for him.

But at some point, I also think that his conscience is working too much. I understood that he’s a Christian, but he was punishing himself too much. There are times I think he was emotional and overly sensitive. On the other hand, who could blame him? No one could ever feel the pain he suffered if you haven’t been in his shoes.

As for our Scarlett- the way Collette described her – she reminded me too much of Taylor Swift because of her songs. She has her moments as well. I like her most of the time, especially when she tries to break Jake’s wall. It was an incredible feat, some would give up, but not her. She didn’t live a perfect life and did things she wasn’t proud of, but she was trying to change her life, and it made me love her more. I was able to relate to her. She had a hard time deciding and weighing her options, but then again, the goodness in her heart and the love she had for Jake had prevailed over some others.

Okay, so the description doesn't at all give a clue to the depth of plot twists in this book. This is by far the best book this author has written. I am completely overwhelmed by this book. Great book about facing your past and overcoming issues. Also, about being honest with yourself and others, especially about emotions.

This was a really good book. Jake Woodbury plays center field for the New York Kings baseball team. He's gorgeous, known to be a minister's son, and he might be a baseball player but he's not a player with women. During one of the Kings games, he hears Scarlett Moore sing the national anthem and he is just inspired by her beautiful voice.

Jake Woodbury is known to be religious and he doesn't really fall prey to peer pressure. His father is a minister and he has always wanted to make his parents proud and God. He has a terrible secret that is eating him up inside and it is causing him to push his parents away and not play baseball as well as he should. Scarlett Moore's voice and herself makes him drawn to her and interested in a relationship.

Scarlett Moore is a world famous pop singer and she's known for singing songs about her ex-boyfriends. The CEO for her record label has her wearing the skimpiest clothes and all kinds of things to be seen as sexy. She's been wanting to do better music but he just keeps stopping her and expecting her to do what he says. Jake is definitely different than what she usually goes for but there is something so great about him. She wants to be with him but she doesn't know if he is over his ex-girlfriend Roberta.

Worth reading.
