The first thing I noticed was the rotating latch on the front right side. All the previous units have been automatic so that’s sort of new for me. But maybe that will be one less sophisticated feature to wear out and break. Maybe a good thing then.
Next, and while this is a good feature that some other units don’t have, the built-in cutter is rather cumbersome to use. On the Pro III Plus, you pull the bag material out and then hold the cover down while pushing the cutter across, giving you a fairly even and square cut. The cutter on the Gamesaver is a little bit of a kluge. You have to lift the little cutter rail up and then thread the bag material under it, requiring a little more care and precision, and then hold the rail down while making the cut. Since there is no good way to hold it down while making the entire cut (as it is not structurally sound), you end up with angled cuts and frequently having to stop mid-cut to reposition your support pressure on the rail. None of this is a “show stopper” but it’s a bit of a PITA if you’re used to something better.
The rotational feature for storage is really nice. Albeit a bit unstable. It still manages to get the unit out of the way, and that’s all that really matters.
I like the way the drain tray has a cupping feature for receipt of the bag end, insuring/ensuring that it doesn’t extend past the seal ring on the back side. Obviously the result of listening to customer feedback.
Vacuum suction seems as good as the other units, in that you feel like it would suck the chrome off of a trailer hitch. How often do you really get to say that in a clean way?
So after I get used to the manual latch and then handling of the cutter rail, I think the unit should prove to be a keeper. Only time will tell.
As many others have said,it does have lifetime limited warranty as others don't.(great selling point) It was also stated elsewhere that the gamesaver bronze has a higher repeated usage cycle rating (like 40 compared to the average of like 11?) on the basic foodsavers, before overheating and needing to cool.
I am a moderately "extreme couponer" buying in bulk and gamesaver bronze is invaluable to me. I buy 10 to 20 like item packages on sale and freeze most of it. It allows you to do more than just freeze meats.
Freezer bags let in air, these bags do not. The sealed freezer bags let air in.You can not pull vacuum on traditional freezer bags with this...I tried that. You must use the sealbag material, but it'sworth the cost to purchase it.I prefer rolls of it rather than individual bags. The bag making cutter makes it easy to make bags to needed sizes.
This is great for sealing food service size canned nacho sauce, then boil in bag thawing and heating in small portions later. I use it to seal doughnuts, cakes etc.for freezing. I pre brown, drain and cool hamburger and vac seal it for later use in meals. It's nice to pre make a meatloaf, freeze it to just pop into oven to bake later. I also seal dry pasta's in bags and stack on shelves as space saver and bug deterrant packaging.(most pasta comes in boxes,no wrapping.) I also freeze fresh tomato slices or quarters, and sliced or diced peppers and onions for sauces, soups and chilies.
We use the sealer for re-sealing cereal, cracker and potato chip bags to prevent staleness and re-seal opened french fry bags.
We like to double up soups and chilli or sausage gravy etc., when cooking, to seal and freeze for boil in bag reheatable fresh meals for days no one wants to cook.
Great to vac or vac seal boxed frozen fish, corn dogs, pizza bites etc., with no inner pack bags, making them into portion packs. I make pancakes and sausage and freeze them for my pre teens to microwave later(when mom wants to sleep in on Saturdays).
Worth the price, best kitchen appliance investment you can make since the microwave! Saves time and tons of money on any food budget, keeps a lot of leftovers from going into the garbage. We often seal meals for one.
