I bought this as a gift for my brother. I went over to paint some models and he let me use this paint. It is like a dream compared to using the Hobby Lobby testor paints that I have been using on my orcs. It is smooth. It doesn't hide details. It's only downside is it is pricey. But I don't think I used less of this paint because it is quality. A little does go a long way. I liked it enough that for Christmas I was on Games Workshop site and bought myself a box of this paint.

This five star review is more for the seller. Twice the paints came old and unusable but the seller reached out personally and made sure I got good paint. Changed review from one to five for that reason.
TL;DR Well, the reviews stating that the stuff showed up looking like it had been open in the sun for too long did have me concerned. They weren't wrong. Four of the pots needed some magic of the Adeptus Mechanicus sort to achieve something that would flow if held upside down for a long time but the rest were liquid right out of the box. Overall they all turned into paint at one point or another.
Longer version: all but four would make noises like a tar-like liquid if shaken with a sharp snap of the wrist but four mocked me with their silence. The ceramite white was the worst of the lot resembling a brilliant white tapioca pudding mixed with chicken droppings suspended in 30 minute epoxy at the 20 minute mark. I'd pour in a good dose of "brand V" thinner medium and give it a shake. One could hear the medium for the first shake or two but then it was absorbed by the contents or spirited away by some dead emperor as it was gone when inspected. Do not despair! Continue the infusions and after a while you will get something resembling the product shown on Warhammer TV by the gene-forged painters in the tutorials - the ones with the eyes of a hawk, the artistry of Vermeer and the dexterity and precision of a Bangkok microsurgeon. The other three recalcitrant colors yielded to the same, if less extensive, treatment.
An hour or so later you will be the owner of actual base paint and a case of tennis elbow with varying degrees of temporary pain.
I'm wondering if we're giving the seller a bum rap - after all one of the issues with the red was that it had apparently been opened. I was armed with a heavy bolter and one-star review until I remembered that the factory seal on the box was intact. I guess I'm going to have to leave that on Citadel's doorstep. The seller didn't open it; Citadel didn't close it all the way. Or closed it after opening it for inspection. Same result, different causes. Or magic. There's always magic.
Gamers can be a fussy lot. I wouldn't have even gone down this road except they didn't like my miniatures when I painted them with latex left over from painting the patio. Pink space marines made perfectly good sense but I guess it was a bridge too far even in the context of a game that's gloriously inconsistent that survived decades of retconning. Some even expect you to "weather" your marines. Apparently we have insects with claws that can leave gashes in ceramite power armor but are helpless to dent a wax seal or the parchment affixed by the seal. I thought it would be consistent to grind off all those things likely to dissolve under an assault that would dent power armor. Note to self: you forgot magic. Magic makes the wax and paper invulnerable. Do not grind off the wax and do not dip coat the result in exterior pink latex. Lesson learned.
That brand V medium does work wonders though. Hence 4 stars.
I love how well the paint stay on with out prime. Only isser I have was the white paint was dry out when I got it. But still better buy set vs get them one by one. Great if price is msrp
A lot of reviews made me hesitant to buy this but i did anyway, all the paints came in amazing condition, even the white! None of them were opened or dried up which made me extremely happy.
To start off, I personally really like Citadel paints. This review is not of citadel paints in general, but specifically about this set.
Let's start off with the positives. The set contains a very solid set of base colors. The set includes Leadbelcher, Macragge Blue, Waaagh! Flesh, Bugman's Glow, Mephiston Red, Mournfang Brown, Abaddon Black, Ceramite White, Zandri Dust, Averland Sunset and Balthasar Gold. With these colors you can pretty much mix up a wide variety of base colors. The set also includes a nice base brush. If you are painting miniatures, the brush is a nice addition. If you use citadel paints for model building, you'll probably want a lager sized base brush. For the price purchasing all these colors as a set can save you some cash.
With all that said, I cannot recommend this set. It is apparent the seller is getting rid of old stock. Only about half the paints in this set were actually usable. The Ceramite white for instance had broken down to solid chunks and a watery slurry. No amount of mixing was going to bring this paint back. So if I'm only getting 1/2 of the set as usable, that really diminishes any price benefit from purchasing the set. You would be better off just purchasing individual pots of the colors that you actually need. This way if one pot is bad, you can return it without having to send back a whole set of paints with it.
My recommendation, just buy the individual colors as you need them.
I used this paint for customizing funko pop figures and it's just amazing, it dries quickly, has beautiful pigment, and the texture it leaves behind gives it a nice 3-D pop.
