The speakers are ok- sounds sort of muffled but I rather use a quality headset.
That sense of bliss only lasted about 3 days....
...And the this issue...
I booted up for a few rounds of War of Tanks and turned on the discord. No sooner than I load into my 1st match the game crashes back to desktop... the discord and pandora still continued to play.. I quickly logged back into WoT and it was terrible.. I was only push about 5FPS so I killed the game and checked the device manager. Somehow the rtx2060 showed disconnected and I was using the intel 630..WTF... it would not let me adjust any properties for the RTX.
I completed a hard reboot - didn't work
I went into the bios to load the defaults - didn't work
I called asus for additional ideas.. I was advised the only thing left I could do is a complete factory reinstall - didn't work either..
So now I am to send it back... dont know if I should get the same one or something different..
The graphics card works impeccably, I tested Battlefield 5, Fornite, Resident Evil 2 and PUBG, and there were not any problem of performance. The keystone is really useless if you don’t have friends with keystone compatible laptops, but it doesn’t bother if you leave it on.
The battery life is around 1.5 - 2 hours depending the performance you demand to it but sincerlly I didn’t hope very much in that area because the most of the time it will be plugged in.
10/07/2019: Update. Well I took away a star on this review. I was told by Asus even supplying them the serial number that it had a single 16 gb stick. So I go to upgrade to 32. Well they were wrong. It has two 8 gb sticks in the two slots. So I had ordered one 16. Now I have 24 gb when I was expecting and paid the money for 32. I can spend more and go to 32, but I am debating whether to do so. So anyone wanting more RAM I would recommend, which is what I considered before this purchase is to buy 3rd party with the 32 already. Or you can spend about $100 per 16gb stick and do it yourself. Patriot Viper is the brand I used for the upgrade. Samsung is the factory RAM.
10/8/2019 update: Going from bad to worse. The aura lighting messed up. Asus does not do any remote access troubleshooting. So they send you email links on how to fix it. Then hang up on you. Still not fixed. If they don’t get it fixed tomorrow I’m sending it back. I’m doing a restore to try to fix this, but their tech support is horrid. Think twice before buying this thing.
10/9/2019: Final log entry star date unknown. I returned this today. I am looking at the Dell Alienware m17. At least they have 24/7 support (with remote access if needed). It boils down to it is not just the computer, but just as important or more so is the support.
The laptop itself is beautiful, it even lights up just like my mouse which was an unintended and cool bonus. The screen quality and overall system specs are just fantastic and can't be understated for games currently out there. For $1700 i would expect no less on a top of the line gaming laptop but its nice that its fully featured here. It has a quality feel so far so i hope that it will hold up as well. The laptop itself has no issues with any games and runs on ultra silky smooth. As far as the system itself i think it's beautiful and runs superbly.
The layout of the power cord and the USB slots. The power cord hook up is behind the laptop, not on the side like i'm familiar with on basically every laptop ever. Well for a long, long time anyways. I didn't even look at the layout before i bought it, i was so sure it would be on either one of the sides of the laptop which would have been fine. As it's behind the laptop itself it sits quite weirdly on your legs when you're on a couch. And since i pretty much only play on a couch nowadays this is always for me, so that's a little unfortunate. That said it's not the biggest of deals, you have have to be careful with how you have the cord. Now onto one of the biggest issues for me; the USB slots. They're all on the left side. That means my mouse cord either has to sit over my legs or around the legs of the couch to reach my right hand which means the cord is rather taut at times, and the mouse i use has quite a long cord. So for anyone not using a wireless mouse this could be a potential problem. As it is, these two things are fairly small and don't diminish my enjoyment of the laptop too much but they are a little weird. Most people are right handed, why have all of the USB slots on the left? Why have the power cord in the back when the sides are so normal and work consistently better? Still, it's new and beautiful and i'll be enjoying it for some time hopefully.
The heat! Good god I’m questioning if any thermal paste was used or if the fans were enough. This thing gets so hot it will actually burn your legs. A cooling pad isn’t a question, it’s a necessity.
Will update this if anything big changes.
*edit* 6JUNE2020 - 1 Star. My power supply cord on the back is now having severe issues to the point where i bought a replacement. With fairly light handling the connection for the power supply has somehow become loose and doesn't seat fully when plugged in which causes it to go between both powered and battery and runs merry hell with the machine when trying to do anything . I bought a replacement battery pack for $90 with the hope that it's just the plug tip screwing it up. If not i will have to take it in to hopefully get fixed. This is a little bit infuriating and is solely caused by the power cord being in the back end. If i played the laptop solely on a desk it would probably have been fine.

When my monster computer crashed after 15 years I didn't want to put money into a rebuild. I bought a lap top. it
will go everywhere I do, and after window shopping bought the Asus ROG Strix Hero.
It is easy on the eyes. The screen is great with beautiful clear sharp colours that make my second screen look like a dish rag.
I haven't spent much time on it because it sounded like a dentists drill when turned on and jet engine when I used the
mouse. I emailed Asus from their web site and they sent a download linc. that fixed the problem in seconds. I love them for that because it solved the problem and they were there to fix the problem. It is important to have that support when you need it.
So far I am happy and now that I can use it I hope to give it the 5 stars but first I want to use it. Maybe even test a game. I will let you know how it goes.
ty and mean, loved it until I noticed the horrible sound. It gave me flash backs of sitting in the dentist chair while the sound of the drill whirred in my ears. I couldn't even think straight with the sound so I emailed support from their web site. The sent and download, I installed it,
