    4 years later…ages poorly
I’ve had this laptop for 4 years now, and the battery life has just gotten worse and worse as the days go by. The laptop was very good during its first year, no issues besides the laptop getting extremely hot. games played smoothly at high settings. 4 years later, games can’t run as well as they used to, lots of lag, battery can’t last more than an hour before getting plugged back in.So yes, this laptop was perfect at first. But it’s aged horribly :(

The design is superb, very stylish and eye-grabbing, without being tacky. The RGB keyboard is great, although I have to play around a little bit more with the settings to see if there is individual colour backlighting on these, the marketing materials do not seem to mention it.

It's a spec beast, that's for sure. It feels super smooth while using most software for video editing and graphic design. Would have liked to see a GTX 1060 instead of a GTX1050 Ti in here to take advantage of the 120hz screen in more games, but it does the trick for the MOBA games I usually play. The screen is gorgeous, and quite an upgrade from most laptops in the price range. Colours are accurate and great for both work and gaming.

Highly recommended if purchased at the right price.

This laptop is great for college student. It's not heavy as expected. If you want to play games with high quality or study, this is the one. I don't know for other laptops. My laptop has errors on mousepad. When I am studying without a mouse, mousepad is sometimes lagging or does not move. Also, when you are playing games, the fan sound is pretty loud and heated on the keyboard. If you are playing with gaming keyboard, gaming mouse, headset, you won't mind with those problems.

Have had this laptop for 1 day, I really like it. A 1-day review is usually frowned upon but Im going from a high end pc (1080 ti, 7th gen i7, etc) to this for work related reason and this thing is really impressive for a laptop. Its geared toward moba's but offers more than just that with the 1050 ti built in, and the 6 core i7 8th gen is a really great aspect. I can have a lot going on with a very slight lag that doesnt bother me (unclocked).

I havnt played any games yet that are graphic intensive but my geforce program auto set a lot of my really nice games that are mostly about the scenario to mostly high settings with some being really high/ultra. Everything about the laptop feels nice. Im glad I bought it.

This is a very powerful asus laptop with some great specs for gaming and other 3D applications. The screen provides an amazing picture and the rgb keyboard theme is cool too. However, many including myself have had hardware issues with the action of the touch pad. The touch pad is simply not up to par for the price point. Secondly this is a VERY loud computer. Rog strix will certainly stay cool for graphic intense purposes.. which in the long run is healthy for the unit.. however be ready for a jet turbine to be going off. This is even the case when your computer is sitting idle doing nothing. Overall strong computer but has several problems which might not be worth the $1000+.

    Update (July, 13 2019):
I would not buy this laptop again! Some months ago, the fan speed started to behave like crazy. Even when the GPU is not being used, the fan goes to 7000rpm, making a huge noise. It happens several times during the day. Posts in the ROG forums and comments here shows that other people are having the same problem. ASUS support didn't help at all. They want me to send the machine for repair, but I live in Brazil and local ASUS doesn't offer support for this laptop. I would need to send it to USA, but shipping would be too expensive and I use this laptop for my daily work. I'm 99% sure this fan problem is a mix of bug in the BIOS + drivers + ROG Gaming Center. Unfortunately, it seems that I will have to buy another laptop, but you can be sure it will not be an ASUS.
    ----------------
    Original comment:
I bought this notebook while my daughter was in USA. Since I live in Brazil, she brought it to me 2 weeks ago. I'm not a gamer, I'm a software developer, so I need a fast machine to do my daily work, and gamers notebooks usually fits this requirement. I was an ASUS fan back in the 90's, when I used to assembly desktop machines with parts from different brands. ASUS was my preferred brand for the motherboards in that time, so I supposed that ASUS notebooks would provide the same quality that I was used to, back in those days. Well, it seems that my expectations was too high. The machine is fast, of course, but I faced two problems that I would like to share: When you "click" in the touchpad, it is like there is something loose inside that hits the plastic chassis mostly where you stand your wrist, causing an weird sensation. The other problem is a "high frequency" noise coming from the notebook when the CPU is under some load. I searched the online forums, and this sound seems to be pretty common in ASUS notebooks, and they call it "coil whine" sound. It seems to be harmless, but very annoying. The loose touchpad also seems to be common for those notebooks. Unfortunately, ASUS warranty does not cover Brazil, so seems that I'll have to live with those problems. They are not showstoppers, but they should not exist at all in a quality product. Another problem was regarding the (mostly useless) ASUS support. I replaced the original SSD with a (higher capacity) Samsung EVO 970, meaning that I had to do a fresh install of Windows 10. I downloaded all the drivers from ASUS site, but I wasn't able to install the touchpad driver. In the end of the install, it always raised an error. I contacted ASUS support by chat, and they gave me all kind of useless answers, like installing ASUS live, send it to RMA (in my case, this would not be possible), etc. I was sure that there was no hardware problem, since the touchpad worked fine in the bios setup screen, and also worked fine in the pre-installed Windows on the original SSD. It took me more than a day digging into forums, etc until I finally found that I had to install the Intel I/O driver before installing the Precision touchpad driver. This wasn't mentioned anywhere. This solved the problem, but I wonder how ASUS support missed this information! So, I wonder if buying an ASUS notebook was the best choice...

We have had this laptop for about two years and I regret it. The fan goes into overdrive and stays there; it's so loud I can hear it with headphones in. Temperatures are not so high to warrant the fan speed. I called ASUS support and it did not resolve my issue; since I am out of warranty they will charge me if I need additional help. Shame on you, ASUS. They also tried to get me to get a free remote diagnostic which is I believe a way to false flag my system with Malware that they can then charge me to repair. Super shady practice I've only seen scammers try that move, I am sure people fall for it, though. Also this thing weighs a ton, traveling with it is a no-go. Not super strong specs for any real gaming, either. I should have listened to the reviews instead of going for the lightning deal. :(

Laptop is very quick with the addition of the SSD. Boots up in less than a minute, but it does run very hot when on full settings even the power transformer gets very hot when it has full load. I got a additional cooling pad with fan to keep the heat down. Most stuff can be ran in lower power mode or standard.

I LOVED this computer for probably the first 6 months of having it, before noticing some wonky fan issues. the thing would kick the fans into overdrive so loudly that it was frustrating to try to hear anything over. I've sent it in twice to have that taken care of under warrantee but now the fans don't work and the computer just shuts off when it gets a little warm (not even HOT. because it does often get HOT). It's so disappointing. I am a graphic designer and a gamer so this machine sees a fair bit of use and worked so great for what i needed, but in the past 3 months i have had to contact asus 3 times for issues. i'm not even a year into owning it and honestly kind of regretting this thing.

I pushed most of my higher games to the highest graphical settings with with laptop with ease and I’m easily ready to call this a happy purchase. And the only reason I give it 4 stars is due to the fan noise which is already to be expected with a laptop.

I'm using it to play videos with VirtualDJ. The machine is running smoothly. I read about some people experiencing heavy fan noise but I topped my processor to 98% so it doesn't go in turbo mode. I guess that's why I don't have any fan sound noise. Boot up time on Win10 is really fast. Overall a great product.

1.0 out of 5 stars Do not buy. Computer requires external media to update but has no external drive. Bad deal.
Reviewed in Canada on August 25, 2019
Do not buy! I bought this just a few months ago and already it is near useless. Every night now the operating system (Windows 10) hijacks my computer with a forced update. The update fails because it asks for "external media" on a computer with no external drive. So I have to wait for the update to stop, force reboot it twice so it reverts, and then repeat the process every night. Who makes a computer with no external drive that requires some mystery external media to update? Now I have to find a reputable seller to find something that works to replace this junk. Do not buy under any circumstances.
