Gangster Government: Barack Obama and the New Washington Thugocracy Hardcover – April 4, 2011
Purchase options and add-ons
Columnist Michael Barone invented the phrase.
President Obama has perfected the practice.
And in this new and stunning book, New York Times best-selling author David Freddoso (The Case Against Barack Obama) provides the much-needed exposé of an administration that has brought Chicago-style corruption and strong-arm politics to Washington, looking to reward its friends (the unions, federal workers, and other liberal interest groups) and punish its enemies (the private sector workers and taxpayers who foot the bill for Obama¹s massive expansion of the federal government).
In Gangster Government you'll learn, among other shocking revelations:
How the Obama administration has used czars” and recess appointments” to install powerful bureaucrats, some with extreme views and shady pasts, without congressional oversight
How the Obama administration ignored the Constitution and reversed 100 years of bankruptcy law to reward its friends (the United Autoworkers) in the GM and Chrysler bailout
Why even the pretense of cutting costs” in Obamacare came second to rewarding the Democrat-supporting trial lawyers' lobby
Why, ignoring federal law, the Obama administration is trying to shield the TSA workers who search passengers at airports from private sector competition
How the trillion dollar "stimulus" was directed overwhelmingly at protecting government workers supported by the taxpayers
Why green jobs” are all about shaking down the taxpayer for favored businessesnot about truly sustainable” energy or jobs
How the Obama administration bullies private businesses and even state governments that don't cooperate with gangster government
Gangster Government is a devastating and revealing look at the momentous first two years of the Obama administration and its subversion of our Constitution and laws. It casts a hard look at a president whose training on Chicago’s political playground shines through every bent law and every broken promise.

From the Inside Flap
"Somehow Barack Obama has gotten away with pretending to be a good-government guy and a scourge of the special interests. David Freddoso's Gangster Government is the potent antidote to this spin. With lively detail and devastating analysis, Freddoso reveals how the president and his administration use the brute force of government to squelch criticism, punish enemies, and even steal from those who stand in their way. Fawning journalists have likened Obama to Lincoln, FDR, JFK, and Reagan--this book shows that Obama is more akin to Nixon." --Tim Carney, author of Obamanomics and Senior Political Columnist, The Washington Examiner
"David Freddoso, one of America's finest reporters, has written a masterpiece exposé on Barack Obama's first two years in the Oval Office. Gangster Government gives readers the detailed inside scoop on an administration populated by officials who ignore the constitutional limits on government while abusing the power of the state to reward their friends and punish their enemies." --Terence P. Jeffrey, author of Control Freaks and Editor in Chief of CNS News
"Gangster government is always a danger, whoever is in power. It is a greater danger the more government is deeply enmeshed with the private sector and when its leaders believe that rules should be bent or ignored in order to benefit favored constituencies. So thanks to David Freddoso for providing a report that enables citizens to decide just how far gangster government has gone in this administration." --Michael Barone, from the Foreword

'Gangster Government' is a detailed account of the abuses of the Obama administration on issues like the auto bailout to Obamacare. Freddoso provides clear examples, and in some cases, the words of Obama officials themselves to prove how they are destroying the fabric of federalism and the three separate branches of government provided for in our Constitution.
Regarding the auto bailout, here is a quote from Steve Rattner, Obama's car czar, "the auto rescue succeeded in no small part because we did not have to deal with Congress...I was stunned to realize that if the task force had not been able to operate under the aegis of TARP, we would have been subject to endless congressional posturing, deliberating, bickering, and micromanagement....If our country wants to do a better job of solving its problems, it needs to find a way to let talented government officials operate more like they do in the private sector." Forget Congress, Rattner believes he and Obama are the 'talented' officials that can properly instruct you which regulations you need to abide by and how they will get there.
Their 'talent' was so extraordinary that the Supreme Court remanded the Chrysler bailout case to a lower court for dismissal and vacated the appeals court decision such that it effectively expunged from the case from the books and records like it never happened so that no one could cite it in the future. The high court had to expunge the case because it violated the basic premises of bankruptcy law that only a Chicago style government can make happen.
Kudos to David Freddoso for doing the job the media should have done, and doing so in an exceptionally readable and throughly documented fashion. Although this book arrived too late to prevent four years of Obama "thugocracy," perhaps it will contribute to preventing a devastating second term.
