it's steel, it pushes snow. it wrecks nature with an ash handle to boot. If it had a flaming blade, it would be absolutely unstoppable.

Edit: After a full winter of pushing white powder, the bottom edge oxidized and left rust marks on the garage floor storage area. Hang this beast for minimum floor staining impact.

Perfect for the job it was intended to do. In our area of the NE, winters no longer produce those nice white powders but rather combinations of snow, ice and rain that are virtually impossible to contend with... the so-called "wintry mix" that is a whole lot uglier than the cute nomenclature being used by weather services. With the heavy gauge blade and secure support design, even the snow-ice accumulations can be managed. I went with the 24-inch because the 30-inch I own (not a Garant, though) becomes unwieldy when dealing with heavyweight snow or snow-rain mixture. I have over 1K sf area to contend with each year, some of which is a steep grade so the blade takes a beating on the parking and road surface. A comparable aluminum blade lasts about 3 years and the poly w/metal edge version about a year before the rivets wear off. One warning to prospective buyers, though: it's a pusher, not a lifter. It's best to move the snow to the edge of the area being cleared with the pusher and then use a poly or aluminum scoop or drift-buster to throw farther away. The blade itself is not designed to lift snow anyway, and bending down to attempt such an action would kill your back in no time. Trust me. In order to increase the pusher lifespan, I recommend touching up the bottom edge with a good rust-inhibitor and enamel after each season. Also, the attachment of the support is only spot-welded to the handle receiver so keep that rust-free as well. All the rivets can be easily replaced but they seem heavy enough and I don't expect early failure. I would certainly purchase another when this one wears out which should be several years.

I have owned this shovel for 4 years, but it finally has started to warp and bend. It would push through packed, hard snow as well as scoop snow to throw over piles. Very happy with it. Too bad it doesn't last more than 4 years!

first this is not cheap or light. that said ordered this when the weather just started to turn and am glad i did. the winter of 2013-14 was a snowy one this shovel held up.
the thing to remember is its a pusher shovel, so when we got 6 ionches i went out every hour and pushed what was on the ground. the extra supports stopped the blade from bending. my wife shovels when i am at work, se complained it was too heavy so i got her a plastic blade shovel. we had so much snow her blade wore out.
things to remember, when season is over put it away inside (to protect wood handle), also dont leave outside in snowstorm this will disapper in a second)
final note , understand the second to last thing i want to do is shovel snow, the last thing is have to run to hd in a snow storm because i cheaped out on a shovel.

It was delivered promptly like everything I order from Amazon Prime. It is a well built shovel. We bought it to clear our pond when it freezes for ice skating. Heavier shovels make the ice smoothier. With that said, it is heavy and we wish we had ordered a longer handle. Lot's of shoveling with a shorter handle make for a sore back.
However, you just can't find things built this solidly anymore. I actually should give it five stars, because if I were a short person, it would be the perfect shovel.

Does it's job well. Bought it to replace a plastic pusher shovel after the metal scraper strip came off. This shovel should last for years. Perfect to clear off our 75' driveway for anything from light dusting, a couple inches of heavy wet, or 4 to 5 inches of powder. Turn yourself into a human snow plow! After a little practice getting the push angles right, I had the snow curling off the blade like a state highway truck. But be aware that if you have uneven sidewalks or pavement the sharp blade can catch and bring you to a sudden stop. Requires a little finesse for optimum performance.
However, this should be just one tool in your snow removal arsenal. Don't expect to use this shovel if your goal is to lift scoops onto existing piles. Even the 24" shovel is a bit too heavy for that purpose if you've got a lot of shoveling to do. Get yourself a smaller flat blade or scoop style like the Suncast SG1600 for lifting and breaking up the clods that the plows left at the end of the driveway.

My old shovel was aluminum with a steel blade. I wondered if this would be the same. When I got it, I realized the entire blade was steel. Wow, this will last forever. One thing though--the handle is too short for a "pushing" type shovel. I had to stoop down to push which takes away a lot of the convenience of pushing. So, I ended up getting another longer handle and replacing the original. I only deducted one star as it was my choice to do so. Great shovel, though.

I previously had the Garant 30" shovel and loved it until the blade curled and wore out to a point I could not stand it (several years). I decided to go with the narrower version this time. Used it for the first time today and it was wonderful with a sharp edge and easy to grasp handle. I won't wait so long next time to get a new shovel!
