Starts in the field

Tyler has worked on the farm since 2007 and in 2015 graduated from Lewis Clark State College with an A.A.A. in Welding. He and his wife met while attending Pullman High School. Like many families, they have struggled with infertility and we are so happy to announce they welcomed their first child, last Fall. Tyler has had a love of farming since he was a small child and every year looks forward to the harvest. He is especially looking forward to teaching his daughter all about farming.

Mariela has been on the Palouse Brand team, packaging your wheat berries and legumes since the Spring of 2020. Since becoming a part of our team, she has grown into a larger role, managing the production side of our warehouse. She has really enjoyed learning how to manage those responsibilities and gaining the knowledge necessary to guide our team through our day to day operations. Every day is a new adventure that Mariela is always ready to tackle.

The seller stated that they are farmed fresh no pesticides no gmo’. Upon opening up the bag to soak them I see these beautiful chic peas. After soaking my wife and I taste these guys: ah delicious just the right taste, sweet actually. Did I mention no salt added. I’m capable of adding our own salt thank very much mass marketed food industry.

Back to the garbanzo beans. What a lucky find to have picked this small family doing their farm fresh products and having the fortune of access on social media to let folks know “hey we have 5lb bags, want to try them?,”

I love the freshness of these beans! I make a delicious and healthy (oxymoron) super crunchy snack in the air fryer with avocado or olive oil and sea salt or another seasoned salt. I was purchasing these beans in 16 oz cans from the grocery store. They are precooked but have many preservatives. I have been purchasing these fresh beans in 5 lb. bags.

I cook 2 cups of dry fresh beans in the electric pressure cooker. I fill the pot with chicken stock. I cook for 5 minutes allowing natural pressure release (about 45 minutes total). Then, I drain and dry the beans for an hour. After they are air dried, I air-fry them at 300 degrees at 5-minute intervals, removing and shaking the basket before frying for another 5 minutes. Repeating this step for 30 minutes and careful not to burn them. I remove them from the fryer and let them cool for another 30 minutes. I add them to a food container, add avocado or olive oil and a seasoning of your choice. Put a lid on them and shake to mike up the oil and seasoning. Remove the lid and enjoy. I leave the lid off so the oil soaks into the dried beans and the outside of the bean isn’t so oily.
