From the manufacturer
We want the best when it comes to our food - clean, organic, and non-GMO. Why would we want anything different for our vitamins and supplements?
We are fanatical about food. We’re different that way. Whether we’re making a vitamin, or a probiotic, or a protein powder, we always start with real foods and these (foods) provide our formulas the power to be their best. We’re different that way, too. The synthetically created, chemical “breakthroughs” from huge commercial laboratories around the world are not for us.
As fanatical as we are over what goes into our products, we are even more obsessed about the things we keep out of them. We hate those synthetic chemicals that most companies use to make their products. This stuff makes machines work faster, and helps factories churn out super-sized containers at higher “efficiency.” Well, while the other guys spend their time preoccupied with their efficiency, we’re uncompromising about your health. Slow it down, make it by hand, grow it in rich organic non-GMO soil with enough sun, air, water and time for it to be its best. Harvest it when ready. Treat it with care. Turn it into a power-packed nutritious food supplement. That’s what we are about.
The Science of Whole Food
Your body was created to eat, process, and derive its nutrition from food—real, healthy food. So, when we create our products, we start by looking at food. What is the “good stuff” in the highest quality food that we are missing in our diets? Which of those foods have the greatest potential to impact—and empower—extraordinary health?
Clean is healthy
We start with what goes IN our products—true, whole food ingredients. But we don’t stop there. We also pay very close attention to what we keep OUT of them. And once again, we look at food—real nutrition food. When is the last time you picked up an apple, turned to read the ingredients, and saw a list of chemicals? If it’s not in your food, then we don’t want it in our supplements.
Traceability is key to what makes Garden of Life’s products so special. Traceability starts with knowing where each and every ingredient in our products comes from and getting to know each and every source: where it’s grown; the farming practices; how they pay and treat the farm workers—everything. That’s why it’s so important to start with Certified USDA Organic and Non-GMO Project Verified fruits and vegetables that are grown without these chemicals. We want to get the good stuff from foods that are grown without any of the bad stuff.

While the vitamins themselves seem to be of high quality, I cannot support a company that is so blatantly evil and you should consider giving your money to a better brand instead.

Since then I've gone back and forth with various multivitamins always looking for something better. From time-to-time I would find myself back using Garden of Life after discovering that what I had tried didn't live up to my expectations.
Fast-forward to what prompted me to write this review. Somewhere along the way between when I began using Garden of Life and now Nestle bought Garden of Life, which somehow flew belong my radar. I've read all sorts of reviews about what an awful company Nestle is and how Garden of Life would never be the same, however I couldn't see that there was any difference and therefore decided to buy another bottle recently. Huge mistake!
I got it after work and decided to start off slow by taking two pills with my dinner and take a full serving (four pills) the following day. This seemed like a good strategy, since it had been a while since I had taken Garden of Life, and that way I could ease into overnight. That is when things didn't go the way I had hoped. By the time I went to bed I noticed I didn't feel like myself, but thought maybe I had eaten too much for dinner. At that time my stomach felt slightly uncomfortable and I had mild pressure in my head. I brushed it off, thinking I would wake up feeling fine in the morning.
Well when I work up I wasn't fine and it was a lot earlier than when I usually get up. I woke up needing to urinate. Again, I tried not to think much of this since even though it's not that common it happens. Eventually I went back to sleep and got up when I usually do, however still not feeling 100% like myself.
I went on with my morning routine, and as it turns out headed out of town for the day for a trip that I had planned. I left in a hurry without being able to drink much of anything, although I did eat breakfast and took two Garden of Life pills. After slightly over an hour of being on the road I found myself needing to urinate again, which I thought was odd since I hadn't drank hardly anything with my breakfast. By that time I began noticing the slight discomfort in my stomach that I had felt the night before and also the mild pressure in my head. Additionally, my lips began to feel chapped.
Within thirty minutes of taking my bathroom break I began feeling the need to stop again to urinate! I thought this was more than odd since I hadn't drank anything and I had just gone. You do what you have to do though, so I found a gas station and took care of business.
By that time the pressure had becoming more noticeable in my head, and I was definitely noticing a change in mood. My lips were beginning to have a burning sensation also. I got to where I was going and by that time it was time for lunch, and therefore I thought it would be a good time to take the other two Garden of Life pills. I had reservations about taking the other two pills given everything I had experienced since taking the first two the previous night, but I thought if I was going to go all-in with Garden of Life than I needed to go ahead and take my final two pills for the day. Of course this was a big mistake!
From then on I began to experience everything that I have described up until this point, except worse. The pressure in my head began to get worse, my lips began burning more, the urge to urinate continued to get worse, my stomach grew even more uncomfortable, and and now my mouth was beginning to feel dry. If I was at home I would have drank more water, however I was on the road and the last thing I needed was to be searching out gas stations on my way back. On top of all of that, I could tell that I was feeling even grouchier.
So I did make it home, and as soon as I did I reached for some water and decided to take some ibuprofen to help shake off the now headache that I had. This will be the last time that I take Garden of Life. There is something that it contains that seems to act as a diuretic, which would explain the constant need to urinate that I was experiencing, as well as the dry mouth and burning lips. Apparently there is also something that is contains that gives me a headache and causes my stomach to feel uncomfortable. That is enough for me to stop taking something, and even though everybody is different I hope this helps whomever decides to read what I've shared in deciding whether to use this product.
+After a while of taking them you actually start to feel better (for me thats how it is)
+Pill size is great
+Overall better health and energy
-The serving size is 4 pills
-I personally wish there was more pills for the higher price compared to other multivitamins
