When my jar arrived in the mail, naturally I couldn't wait to try it. The color was a beautiful semi-transparent white, and the consistency was solid, yet nice and buttery to the touch. Upon taking a pea-sized amount out and into my hand, it completely melted into a silky liquid a few seconds after contact. The aroma and flavor is very pleasant and mild, and I could (and do) easily eat a spoonful of it.
I have also replaced all of my conventional lotions and face creams with this coconut oil. It does an amazing job, and really, my skin has never looked and felt better. It does NOT leave a greasy feeling on your skin at all - it actually absorbs into the skin really well a few minutes after application, and leaves it feeling nice and soft with a pleasant scent. I also use this as a lotion for both of my children, one of whom is an infant. They absolutely love it and I feel good knowing that I am using something all natural on their skin. (Note: If you are planning on using this as a moisturizer, please know that a little goes a long way!) :-)
Needless to say this will be my go-to brand of coconut oil from now on. Even though I have barely started this jar, I am already planning on purchasing my next one - this is absolutely fantastic coconut oil!
Coconut oil, youve heard all the great things it does. Here are some things that hopefully persuade you more:
Ive found that when refrying leftovers, such as chinese food or meatballs, it actually IMPROVES the flavor over the original. With coconut oil, you can avoid microwaving, which does alter the taste and texture, and some say destroys nutrients and adds toxins. Just stir fry with coconut oil and enjoy your delicious leftovers!
It may serve as a bit of a replacement for vanilla in baking. The main purpose of vanilla is to add flavor. Unfortunately, the vanilla we had at home had the dreaded CORN SYRUP in it (READ YOUR LABELS). I looked online and it appeared that it could be omitted anyway, but as it turned out, coconut oil appears to provide that underflavor. Add a hint of coconut to your baking!
Yes, coconut oil can be much more expensive than regular oil, but you cant and shouldnt cook with olive oil. Almost every other oil is bad (soybean, canola, corn) or just not as good (butter). Think of it as an investment in your future. I know people who arent of strong financial means that would be hard pressed to give up their "coco" as I call it.
Enjoy!
I know some people who use it on their skin but it, weirdly, dries my skin out. I wish I could because it's great, healthy stuff.
