This little stool is so much better than squatting, kneeling, sitting on the ground, sitting on some other kind of low but stationary seat, or any other method of positioning to work on low areas.
It's very easy to scoot around short distances to change work areas without having to get up and then s1uat back down again. If I need to go any significant distance, it's lightweight and easy to carry without loosing the stuff stored on the bottom.
The wheels are hard plastic and work well indoors and out. I would love the option of more rugged wheels for use on rocky areas (like the crushed marble floors in the crawl space under the house), but these work well for their advertised, intended purpose.
I like the design of the storage area. I've had a similar stool in the past that had a compartment under the hinged seat. It seemed like a good idea to have enclosed storage, but it was a pain to have to get up to get anything out of it, and it held moisture even with drainage holes. It's so convenient to keep several tools in that storage area and just switch them out as needed. I never lose my tools anymore.
My only complaint is that the seat is cut to face forward. I prefer to sit sideways on it and to be able face any direction as needed. The seat is much more comfortable than it would be if it was a square flat seat. My first choice would be a molded, butt-shaped seat capable of spinning, but barring that, I think a round or oval shaped seat would probably work better than the current design. I'll probably fix something up in the shop to make it more comfy.
The pile of parts and assembly directions were intimidating at first but it came together surprisingly well, quickly and easily.
I'm really happy with this purchase, and I prefer this model to a similar product I've had before (Step2 model). Because I'm not totally satisfied with the shape of the seat, I'd give it 4 and a half stars if possible, but I rounded up to 5.
PROS: Decent quality plastic for most of the parts. Contained a million screws, nuts, washers, etc - more than you need for this scooter. I like the colors, they blend in well with the garden/yard. It's little shelf holds tools pretty well while you are scooting around.
CONS: The first scooter I ordered had a piece of sharp plastic jutting out on the top of the seat, where a machine had clearly not smoothed it over. I initiated the return process and received a replacement scooter two days later. The second scooter was mostly easy to put together, although you really need two people to do it unless you are really good at balancing parts that are not yet secured together, at weird angles. Once put together, I felt satisfied. However, after scooting from one end of one garden bed to the other (about 16 feet), and sitting on it for awhile, the real problem became clear. The pieces weren't staying screwed together! Each inch I was rolling over my grass caused the screws/nuts/washers/etc to jostle a little looser. All in all, between 3 garden beds, I think I had to flip the scooter over and tighten the screws about 6 times. Definitely not something you want to deal with when you're using gardener's gloves and trying to focus on planting rather than scooter maintenance. And no, I'm not overweight or trying to scoot in the wrong direction or anything like that.
VERDICT: Like I said, overall I appreciate the purpose of this scooter - it really helped my knees and back while I was scooting around planting things, or needing to sit while I sorted through seeds, etc. But the need to readjust the screws pretty consistently was annoying - I almost lost a couple of pieces if they had completely jostled loose before I checked them - and those little washers are really hard to find in grass!! I'll be keeping this scooter when it comes time to weed, but I'm overall pretty disappointed.
