This is my second year using the old version of this product (same idea, just a different size) in snowy northeast Ohio. And I've gotta say, I'm impressed. As a condo dweller, I do not have a lot of room to grow veggies on. I use self-watering containers for my tomatoes and green peppers, that take up most of the room on our patio, so had no room to place containers for lettuce, kale, zucchini, cukes, broccoli, etc. Placing the Garden Tower in a flower bed solved that, while remaining so attractive that the condo association gave us no problems. In fact, the president loves the way it looks. All that, and the tower has provided us with salads & greens for smoothies steadily.
I love the integrated composting. Again, there is no way the owners association would have permitted us to compost. The tube, and then red wrigglers have solved that problem.
The only thing that stops this from being a five-star review is that the back of the unit is not productive once the plants facing the sun grow. The plants grow okay during the spring, but the shade soon stunts them. Last year, we planted a broccoli in a north-facing slot that did not head. Wiser this year, we planted spring lettuce in the back. As expected as of now (mid July), it has petered out. The lettuce hasn't gone to seed .Instead, the plants are just... dying.
Still, highly recommended. Especially for condo-dwellers.
UPDATED 04/20/2016: It looks like this now rotates, so the back-side die-off may be a thing of the past. That said, being a tinkerer (should have been an engineer, I think...), I know that the more moving parts a thing has, the more apt it is to fail. So I'd be interested to know how solid the bearings are.
BTW, planting this for year #3 in about two weeks.Just add a little compost and organic fertilizer and minerals and I'm off. :-)

Update May 3, 2017:Thanks for the comments! I realize one problem I had was not evenly watering from the top of the planter, or watering enough. Since, I first posted, I put a large saucer under the tower to catch any excess water. Before, I think I underwatered. I was avoiding water leaking on our deck. After almost 6 months, the tower is doing well, along with the worms. Interestingly, the worms are staying small, unless I transfer them to my large garden plot. Then, they grow to normal size. I've added an updated picture. I'd still buy Mr. Stacky, since it's a lot cheaper. But, have figured out how to enjoy the Tower 2 better, and grow things more successfully.-----------------------------------------------------I bought same brand of tower on a cheaper website, for about $20. plus less.I think now, a garden is all about space. There's just not a lot of space for the plants to grow. I thought I was doing okay, until I compared my tower to our condo community garden boxes. Those veggie plants took off, and are bigger in less time. I think it's because they have more space to grow. I guess the trick is also picking things that grow easily, like mint.Also, the composter is a challenge. It's very long and narrow. It gets hard to stir. I've invested in two batches of live red worms, organic soil, three types of organic plant foods, two bags of compost starter ($16.00 a bag), lots of chopped organic veggie scraps, dead leaves, etc. My first tomato will have cost me about $500., if the bugs or birds don't eat it first.I call it my "Susie Homemaker" garden. All those toys on TV looked so great, until you got them home. Also, the draw sticks. My "tea water" is smelling like swamp water. There's a whole art to composting, especially, in that little plastic tube. I also bought one of those green house shelves too, at the same time, via Amazon.com. It's cheaper and becomes a terrarium. But, I haven't had a lot of luck with that either. I think it's about having a big enough garden bed. Or, if you grow things that are almost weeds, like mint, etc. I've only had this about a month. So, may like it better with time.Please don't be fooled by the large, patio tomato plant. I bought it about that size at Home Depot, about two weeks ago.
