Great for beginners (and those who are not)!

I personally don't consider myself a veteran in gardening AT ALL... I've had a simple family orchard for 5 years and I dare say that having read this book, made me realize all I have been skipping and better yet, all the potential my garden has.
I loved the fact that the authors write so simply, so casual! I truly believe in making gardening something relaxing, never stressful (stress never works out for plants, anyway) and this shows how much simplicity gardening can take, mainly because it tells you one universal truth: plant what you can manage/need/want to grow.
I totally recomend this book for any urban gardener, specially beginners and not so beginners. Here you can find your style and make it happen!!! No matter if you love flowers or veggies or both. If you have a small or big space, you can absolutely make it happen... AND WITH STYLE!!! ;)

A cool surprise of a book

Purchased this book for a friend who moved down to Southern Cali, to the city...with a small plot for some veggies. She being a first time gardener I took a chance on this book. Once it arrived I smiled as soon as I saw the cover. Nice, inspiring...I love colorful gardening books and as I browsed and read carefully through it I was pleased very pleased. I knew it was the perfect book to get her inspired, and unafraid to start. I highly recommned.

Again, got this book from the library, read most of it and decided this needed to be in my home library so ordered it on Amazon. Easy read. Great points on urban gardening, discusses options for all types of urban gardeners (patios, vegetable, ornamental, etc). Great ideas for re-purposing and re-cycling. Great information on plants and companion planting.

As a novice gardener, I was a bit trepid about the whole idea of gardening before picking up this book. It presents the big things to know in a simple enough way to understand (with lots of visually stunning and helpful pictures), but not in an overly complicated way. I felt informed, but not overwhelmed. I really liked that it helps you identify what type of gardener you will be, giving you the best chance of success as you determine ahead of time what you should grow, what the environment is like, and what fits into your schedule.

It's surprisingly easy to read and I already bought one for my mama!
