I am mightily impressed with this little gadget! First borrowed one from a neighbor while out uprooting dandelions and thistles by hand, and could not get over how thoroughly it removed each plant, roots and all, without having to bend over or pull hard. A little foot action, and the weed (even some pretty huge thistles with 2-inch-thick stems) literally pops out of the ground. In fact, it works best on the largest weeds, and really small ones will slip between the teeth without being uprooted. The only reason I didn't give it a 5-star rating is because the little black glued-on friction panel at the back of the lever stayed on for almost no time at all; the glue almost immediately started slipping the first time I used my weed-popper (melting? I don't think so, as the weather was not hot)and the panel soon came off the lever. The friction panel wasn't really necessary though, and the weed popper continued to work quite well throughout the day. It appears to be very sturdy, constructed of 100% galvanized metal, and I think it will last well for some time to come. Instructions that accompany it do suggest that it works best when the soil is not too dry, but I have been using it after at least a week with no rain, and weeds are still coming out easily.

After the first hour of dandelion removal, the digging tines started splaying outwards. Made in China. Nice. I had high hopes but am fairly disgusted now.

I bought the Garden Wesel Weed Popper Original Garden Weasel 95006 Weed Popper to replace the Weed Popper I have had for at least 15 years. I used the old weed popper so much over the past years that I wore it out. I went to our local Ace hardware and what they had by Garden Weasel was the new Weed Popper Red. It was not even close to what I used and liked for the past 15 years so I found this one on Amazon that was just like the one I had. I received it yesterday and started using it immediately. It is an amazing piece of equipment. It pops weeds so easy but the best part is that it also does an incredible job of popping stickers and if you have ever dealt with these pests you know if difficult they are to dig up. The popper pops them right out and then I use the fork to stab and pick them up so I don't even have to bend down. They improved the handle over the one I originally had by using a tubular metal handle rather than a wooden one. On my old weed popped I had to replace the original handle after several years of hard use with an old broom handle but it still worked great. Eventually I bent the metal that supports the tines by using it to pry up some very tough clumps of grass but that was after using it for years. I will be careful not to abuse this one and expect it to last for more than 15 years. I highly recommend this garden tool (the original one) if you have to pull weeds or dig stickers.

After returning the poorly designed Weed Popper Step and Twist to the local hardware store, they suggested this model. It looked tougher and carried a slightly higher price tag, $20 plus tax at this particular shop.

Garden Weasel apparently uses rather poor quality steel in their tools. The Step and Twist had tines that bent very easily. While the working parts of this tool are stronger, it still has a weak point, the fork where the handle connects to the tool. After just a few minutes of use, the metal was visibly distorted and the handle was no longer vertical. After about 10 minutes, the mechanism that clears the tines had stopped working due to the deformation of the handle, and after 20 minutes, the whole thing jammed when the clearing mechanism got stuck underneath the handle, rendering the tool completely unusable. Luckily, the store let me return the tool.

This would have been a great tool if they simply added some reinforcing or used a stronger grade of steel. While it was functional, it worked extremely well, but the handle is just too weak to remain intact for long.

This works like a champ as long as you don't put any pressure on the handle. The bracket where the handle attaches is flimsy stamped metal that bends easily, rendering the item practically useless until they are bent back into shape. (see my picture)

It comes wrapped in bubble-wrap, no instructions or warranty information. I can't recommend this when there are much better choices, backed by reputable well-known companies.

Yes it works but compared to the Fiskars Root and Weed Remover... They just aren't worth the money. I did a head to head test on 20 deep root weeds and this product does a lot of damage to the ground. Yes it will get the whole root out but only 60% of the time. Which may work for Bryan Fantana but in my yard that means these will grow back. The Fiskars removed the weed and its entire root nearly 85% of the time. The biggest difference is on the 2nd attempt to remove the weed & roots the Garden Weasel really ripped up the ground making 2.5" deep holes ripping up existing grass roots and tearing up the yard with limited results on actually removing the root left behind. The Fiskars root remover clams around the root and removes it with accuracy and does very little damage to the surrounding grass which means you can repair the hole very easily too. With the Weasel you have to do a good bit of work to try to replant the chunk of earth it removes and leaves a VERY noticeable mark on every root you try to pull.

Top it all off with saftey. The weasel requires you to stand on one foot and use the other to step on the tool to uproot the weed. Which sounds easy but if you are old you may fall. The Fiskars can be used with one hand and both feet planted firmly on the ground. You just place it over the weed and press it into the ground using your foot if needed to really go deep then pull back. No dangerous balancing act. Simple and safe for older or less balanced people.

Top it all of with the metal it is made with bends if you pull back on it. Disappointed it bent on my first 8 times using it. It just isn't as good a Fiskars
