I bought this as a cutesie-novelty gift to go along with the new plants/trees that I get for my mom every year for Mother's Day and her birthday -- without giving it much thought on its actual utility. But when it got here, I got curious and pulled it apart to check it out because that box that it came in seemed too small to contain all that was advertised.
It is nicely made with durable nylon so it won't tear easily and will clean up. It is compact in size, yet holds all that you need in a reasonable way so that you will actually use it. I myself am one of those people who gets all of their tools out and starts to pull weeds and trim back shrubs, and sets the tools down and looses them in between uses. (I also do the same with scissors and the tape while wrapping gifts). With this set, I can either put the apron on and slide the tools in a pocket when I am finished with it, or if I use the tote option I have the tote pockets sitting next to me to put the tools away rather than losing them every 3 minutes.
The tools themselves are of medium-quality. The shears should do great for small shrubbery. The tools in general should be perfectly suitable for basic weeding and trimming clean up on the weekends - as well as for building your potted plants. As for the gloves, I myself prefer my gardening gloves to be rubber-coated and more fitted, so I would be handing these gloves off to my husband.
P.S. I LOVE that the floral wire twist is included! I use that stuff for all sorts of things around the house and yard!

Not sure about: I'm not as sold on the apron in this set quite yet. I have never gardened with an apron on--it seems like it wouldn't stay well when I bend over to pick things. However, to be fair, I've not tried it and might love it. Like the tote, it is made from really heavy-duty material.
Overall, the quality is good, the pieces are useful, and this set will get lots of use this summer.

Favorite pieces of this set: I love the green twist tie string that came with this set--I have always just looked around the house for string to tie my plants to their stakes, but this will come in so handy this summer! As a first time gardener I wanted to have the right tools but not spend a fortune on the hobby just to get into it this gives me a good starting set that will allow me to figure out which tools I will use most frequently and where to invest in the future. The carrying bag is nice - I like that it has a hole in the middle so I can carry my tools but also put veggies and herbs in here after harvesting. At this price point you can’t go wrong with this set.

I was impressed with the quality of the tools for the price. These are not top of the line, but they aren't dollar store quality either. The pruner is on the small side, but it will work well for shrubs and flowers.
The apron is a touch big for my 4 year old, but it's adjustable and will work to keep his clothes clean. I especially love the tool bag, so that the tools all stay together.
Very giftable, and a good first set.
