Gardner Bender Liquid Electrical Tape
This rubber based brush-on liquid tape forms a protective, waterproof, UV-resistant, dielectric seal around spliced electrical wire to protect against corrosion, shortages, electrical shock and vibration. The quick-drying fluid cures in 24 hours and will not deterioriate or unravel like traditional tape. Resistant to chemicals, solvents, saltwater and other common fluids, to achieve connections that last for decades. To apply, shake well then use brush built into the cap to liberally brush the liquid over the splice/connection. Allow to dry for 5 minutes and then re-apply if a thicker application is needed. I have used this product since it was available. For Apple device users who have magcharge or mobile device ,USB charging cables, if you are proactive & when the cable is brand new you “ do” one or two reinforcement wraps of black duct ( Gorilla) tape or heat shrink ( if you can get it over the connector type) THEN COAT that area with 2,3,even 4 layers of this stuff - right in that spot where we all have the cables flex until they ultimately fray and the insulation opens near the connector end - you will not have to replace the kids ( or your) iOS device charging cable again.
Every Apple MacBook or iOS device we have has the original charging cord and this goes back thru pre-2008 MacBooks and 1st gen iPods up to current models. They didn’t initially have a white so many are white cables with black ends, lol. Anyway.
I use this stuff on everything. It is great for costing any exposed bolt threads ( jeep bumper ) , Use anyplace you don’t want moisture. ive even coated circuit boards within eCig batteries with it . It’s only limitation is extreme heat over a few hundred ° F and any high wear area it can peel off over time but on other insulation it adheres better ( the cables) . I hope this helps other prospective users. A bottle lasts a long time if you tighten and clean lid then drop in a ziploc bag and extract the air .
First impressions when I opened the package: No instructions at all. No information about recommended application temperature, dry time between layers, cure time, etc. I think the lack of information says a lot.
Application was easy and the consistency of the product was nearly perfect. Think enough to stay put and not drip all over the place. And that's why I've given this two stars instead of just one. This is the only good thing about the product.
Unfortunately, durability is bad as compared with other brands. The dried result -- allowed to cure for 24h, which is standard for this kind of product despite the lack of guidance from this manufacturer -- is slightly stretchy but then breaks quite easily as compared with other brands I've used. It also does not adhere well. And it dries a dull matte black, not glossy like some others.
For reference, I tried to use this to help seal some rubber tubing. I have a section that I did with another brand two years ago that's still 100% sealed and good to go, and which I can't even budge when I apply pressure with my fingernail. This product, on the other hand, peeled right up when I tried and then a big chunk broke off in my hand when I stretched it a bit. I have no confidence that this would last more than a couple of days under any kind of stress.
All in all, not recommended.
I gave this a 4th star only after some other reviews pointed out additional uses, and I LOVE product flexibility, where products can be used beneficially in ways other than designed. Case in point; repairing rubber boots, switch covers, etc., and using it as a liquid rubber.
CHEERS: It works as a brush-on insulator that remains flexible when dry, and seems both effective and durable. Comes in an unbreakable plastic jar. Comes with a large brush built into the cap.
JEERS: Lots of safety warnings, but no How To Use tips or instructions (Should I shake it before each use? Should I use one thick or several thin coats? How long should I let it dry?); smells terrible! (contains naptha); messy to use; description says Fast Drying and 24 Hours (in what universe is 24 hours considered fast drying?); comes in a plastic bottle (plastics rarely prevent evaporation as well as glass).
This is not a product I love, but despite my Jeers, I do agree that in cases where nothing else will work, this stuff works well.
Closing Note: when it comes to electrical tape, stop using that Five Rolls For A Dollar crap! Use good quality tape like 3M Super 33+ or its equivalent.

I needed to insulate the motherboard from condensation. This stuff worked perfectly.
You definitely want to apply this in a well ventilated area. It gives off some bad chemical smell when it dries.
The brush has plastic bristles and does fall apart very easily.
This stuff dries pretty fast and will turn into clumps. I used rubbing alcohol to turn it back into liquid. Worked just fine.
Comes off easy, pulls off in a sheet. Use rubbing alcohol and a rag to remove small pieces/coating. Can cut with a razor.
The brush that comes attached to the lid is way too big for small jobs like this, but I found a Q-tip to be perfect for applying the liquid.

You will need a little brush as one in lid is far too big.
Quite often tape is all you need and although it deteriorates and shrinks over time, the electrical service industry has given the green light to electrical tape for insulation and safety.
All of the shortcomings with electrical tape can be eliminated and the insulation can last a lifetime with this insulator.
I am developing submerged electrical sensors for temperature, depth, and motion activity and after building the sensor and attaching the wires, I dunk the complete sensor in this stuff.
I have never experienced electrical failure from leakage using this - try that with tape.
