I have a Tohatsu 5 hp motor for my 18ft pocket cruiser. I purchased this Garelick carrier mostly for use while off season. It is very well constructed of strong materials and it has a solid substantial feel to it. It gives a confident feeling of being able to offer utility for the life of the motor. I am highly pleased with this stand/carrier and would buy it again.

My first review ever, so here goes.

The cart is built way too high for a 15" normal shaft. The wood cross beam is so high off the ground that I could barely - and I mean barely - get my Mercury 9.9 4 stroke on it, and I'm 6' tall. If you're shorter, you'll need to stand on something to get your motor mounted. Once I got it on the cart, the bottom of the engine was 10" off the ground. This causes several problems: the engine & cart is top heavy and very wobbly, unstable; it's hard to pull on the pull cord as it it so high in the air, I had to stand on a step ladder to get the right pulling angle; and because the water pickup is so high off the ground, it's hard to get water to it to start it.

So I modified the cart. I cut 8" off the bottom of the handle part, bolted the wheel/uframe to the holes that used to be for the support brackets, and drilled 2 new holes higher up for the support brackets. Made a huge difference, now the engine is stable on the cart, the pull cord is at the right angle, the engine is MUCH easier to get on & off the stand, and it easy to get water to the water pickup.

The way it came from the seller, I'd rate it 1 star, and I would have returned it. After my modifications, I'd rate it 5 stars

Item was pretty much as expected, assembly was a little difficult because of misaligned holes to attach support struts. All screws and nuts were strewn about inside the delivery box and fell all over the floor when I opened the box, however when I finally found all the nuts and bolts I was delighted to find that all the parts were present. The assembly instructions failed to tell what to do with two washers, however I placed them on the outside of the wheels before securing the cotter pins and that seemed to work fine. I placed my 5HP 4 stroke Tohatsu outboard on the cradle and was very happy with the balance and ease of transport that the dolly provided. I would recommend this carrier with reservations because of the assembly problems I encountered. Item was delivered on time and securely packaged, and the price was right.

This Motor Carrier does a good job but it is awfully light weight, strong enough, but light weight.

When I put my 15hp Mercury outboard on it and just touched the handle lightly it bobbled back and forth like a bobble head doll.

It worked just fine moving the motor from the back of the boat across the grassy yard and into the garage and seems solid enough. The wheels were large enough to easily go across the grass even after a good bit of rain.

So it will work ok I think, but I just don't like my trusty motor bobbling back and forth.

holds and makes transportation of my outboards a breeze. I love it simple to put together light yet strong for my needs of 3.5 all the way to a 20 Hp honda and everything in between. I even since and wash my outboards while on the stand. Makes working on the motor easy as well. I have done everything from rebuild a 1962 Evinrude two stroke both power head and lover unit while mounted on this stand. My outboards are easy to store now and look really nice and neat in my garage saving me time and space. I do have some of the bigger stands of the same make for bigger outboards.

I bought this to cart my 3.5 HP outboard. It is certainly strong enough for that. The reason I can't give it a higher rating is because I find it a little awkward to use. The handles are a bit high. I am 5'8. I have to tilt it far enough backwards when carting that a significant amount of weight shifts to my arms. Carting my motor from the parking lot down the ramp to the boat which is maybe 200 yards my arms begin to get tired. Maybe that is typical of any cart, I don't know, this is the only one I've owned.

This cart fit my Mercury 4 stroke perfectly. One of the other reviewers was correct about it being a little tall and wobbly, so I drilled a new set of holes about 5 inches lower for the cross beam using a 1/4" Dewalt drill bit. Now it is very stable. I also think my motor is well over the 85 lbs limit. I will attach some photos of my work. 5 stars after modification for a good low priced product.

The stand is adequate, and directions for assembly are only so-so.

My stand was missing the two bolts to fasten the supports, so I had to provide my own. Not a big deal, but annoying.

The stand will accommodate up to a 15 HP motor, however if you're using it for anything over 5 HP, you're supposed to attach the mounting-board on the back of the frame instead of the front. Unfortunately the instructions aren't well written, and that little tidbit isn't even mentioned until after the stand assembly is complete. Since it's a balance issue, dealing with the extra weight of the larger motor, it's not something you really should be ignoring. So if the board's on the wrong side, take it apart and move it now. Again not a big deal, but annoying.
