I have tried all other kinds of mounts for my Garmin GPS, including the suction cup and the AC vent holders but the AC vent ones block the AC airflow and the suction cup ones come loose right away. I had to remove the AC grate clips when not in use to allow the air to flow. Those clips are not easy to insert and remove and are a pain. The suction cup one always took several tries to get it to stick. I decided to give this a try and boy, am I happy I did. This sits perfectly on top of the dash of my 2006 Honda CR-V and stays put. I purposely took some corners hard and did some hard stops, acceleration, and braking and this thing didn't budge a millimeter. When I am parked, I can simply lift this, with the GPS still attached, off the dashboard and set it on the floor in front of the seat to get it out of view. Then simply put it back up onto the dashboard and away I go. I finally found the mount that works for me.

The concept may be great, but the ball where the GPS attaches is too small for for my GPS, causing the screen to flop down to face the floor. I measure the diameter of my window mount ball and the one that came with the friction mount. My window mount measures 17.21 mm. The friction mount ball measures 16.56 mm. That is nearly 0.75 mm difference it may not sound like a lot, but is the difference between a screed that stays where you point its where you point it or points at the floor after a few seconds of driving. I have only read about a couple customers with a similar issue so I assume it is not widespread, or people are way more tolerant than I am.

I've had a Garmin for work purposes for 6 years now and have gone through several suction cups. Eventually, their life comes to an end and the GPS falls onto the dashboard, scaring the person driving and anyone in the car. I was hesistant about this purchase but it really is amazing. The mount is weighted with sand and can easily be moved to another vehicle or taken down. Best part of all, the Garmin sits securely in place as it should. Now if only we could get Garmin to start packaging these babies along with the navigation unit!

My only note to make about this mount is that if your gps doesn't have a suction cup to attach to the back of the unit, you will need to get one, as this came with everything but that. When I got this I then had to go look for the suction cup that allows you to slide it into the ball, and then mount it on the back of my gps. Otherwise, this unit stays in place better than the other mount I had purchased previously.

The reason this unit gets only an 3-star "ok" is because it does NOT remain in position on the dash. This in a 2015 Tahoe sheriff patrol unit. I use a windshield mount in the left corner on my 2013 but this unit has a radar ant mounted there now so I got the dash "non-slip" pad to mount the GPS unit on. Well, it sets there fine, but a little to much gas peddle and off it all goes onto the control counsel, or any turns and it slides in the opposite direction.Trying to figure out a fix and if not, then back it goes and look for another solution. Center window mounts are out as you can not reach it from the drivers seat. AC mounts on rough dirt roads often fall off and certainly jump around. Dash on the Tahoe is just to slick ! It works but on this vehicle model, it does not work without issues so, three stars and not recommended.

Truly Frustration Free Friction Mount

Works great for my Garman GPS. No more fussing with the stupid suction cup mount that always decides to drop the GPS at the worse possible moment. I bought the Friction Mount when I bought my new GPS. I wish I had bought for old GPS, it would have prevented a lot of frustration. This is the perfect mount for my rather enormous FJ Cruiser dashboard. It stays where I place it, no fuss no muss. The bottom is just the right weight and grips my dashboard like a champ. Even stays in place when I'm off-roading. The knob at the end of the arm fits inside my GPS to hold it steady and is easliy adjustable for viewing.
Plus: Stays where you place it. Leaves no tell tell signs like the suction did announcing you have a GPS when you remove it. Quality made.

Good for short-term portable use, can move during sudden stops

I ordered this mount to replace the suction cup/adhesive mount that came with my GPS, which fell off my windshield during a 90 degree day two months after I mounted it. I tested this out last week-end during one and a half hour city and highway driving and mount stayed in place for that entire period. Pros: Portable, easy to use and can move around dashboard depending on angle of sunlight. Con: I took the GPS unit off, but drove around with the mount in place to see how well it stayed in place. Yesterday I had to brake suddenly at 25 miles an hour and the mount flew back against the windshield. At that speed it didn't damage windshield, but that is a risk plus it could damage GPS. As dashboard is slanted backward to windshield it is more likely to fly into windshield than passenger, but that risk exists. I was disappointed that Garmin did not include instructions or warnings with this item. A warning of the risk at sudden stops should be included along with a recommendation not to have on dashboard when not using. I'd also liked to have seen instructions for attaching and locking the arm to the bean bag, primarily as I am not sure why the arm is removable in the first place. I would like to have a mount that I can trust to keep the GPS in place. I bought the Square Jellyfish Jelly Grip Car Vent Mount at the same time based on reviews, but haven't yet tested it.

Endlich mal nix an der Scheibe befestigen und fällt bei jeder Unebenheit im Boden wieder runter. Damit ist eine gute Halterung gelungen die bei mir mittig vorne auf der Ablage liegt. Sie liegt bombenfest auch mit Navi, Kurven oder bremsen interessiert die Halterung nicht, da muss nix gradegerückt werden oder ähnliches und das Navi wackelt auch nicht.

Wer wie ich an der Scheibe sowas nicht mag ist mit dieser Garmin Halterung bestens bedient und ich bin damit super zufrieden.

Anm.: Da ich bei suchen eines Produktes großen Wert auf die bereits verfassten Rezensionen lege und auch fast immer danach auch aussuche, verfasse ich ebenfalls Rezensionen um Informationen und meine gemachten Erfahrungen mit den gekauften Artikeln hier an dieser Stelle weitergebe. Ich war erst skeptisch, ob dieses Teil überhaupt halten kann und fest sitzt...

Und muss echt sagen... Sie hält bombenfest. Sie rutscht nicht, wackelt nicht und sieht zudem echt gut aus. Selbst bei starkem bremsen oder beim fahren durch Schlaglöcher passiert absolut nichts.

Ich weiß echt nicht, wie die so gut halten kann, aber Sie tut es. Sie hält sogar mein 7 Zoll großes Navi ohne Probleme.

Es gibt glaube Ich nichts besseres. Kann ich nur empfehlen :)

Love love love this. Bought it for my old satnav,, suction attachment broke, a perfect fit, as the fitting is still same size. No more frustrating stabs at windscreen, trying to get suction to stick. Even then, it might fall off whilst driving. Then there is the panic to get it back on / get passenger to hold it! If you have a Garmin, you need to get this and thank me later. All you have to do is just click stand into base, leave on dashboard, attach equipment and drive. It won't move until you move it, probably the magnets. Fantastic. I won't dare fumble for satnav when stuck in traffic, as too much hassle to divert to strange route. This make it so easy that I now look forward to going strange places where I need a satnav! Remember to thank me later.

I bought one these with a nuvi 2545 - it sits happily on the sloping dash of my car, I've only had to slightly reposition it once after going over a speed bump a bit quickly.
No rings on the windscreen, and it keeps the sat nav lower and so does not obstruct your view of the road in any way.

Nuvi 2595. If you can cope with a fairly monstrous blob on your dash, then this will solve the problem of how to mount your Garmin. For me, the vent-holder won't work on my car's vents, the windscreen sucker occasionally drops off (never at a good time) but this holds my sat nav perfectly. I've seen a YouTube video of a dude accelerating with one of these placed on a sloping dash so I put mine on the sloping bit. It fell off the first time I properly accelerated onto a busy roundabout - not that I drive like that often. Lesson learned. It now sits a little further away from me than is ideal but on the flatter bit of the dash and it is steadfast. My problem now is how to keep the heavy sat nav power lead from flaying around.

The friction mount is great just place it in a suitable place in your car attach the sat nav to the quick release on the mount and its read to go and the sat nav does not move around its solid no more dropping of the window with that window suction mount that was just not fit for purpose.
I have found that driving the car with the sat nav attached to the friction mount perfect in all road conditions it does not move around its perfect. This friction mount should have been standard with the sat nav and Garmin should have stopped supplying the window mount.
There is only one small thing when going over really bumpy roads the sat nav does tend to vibrate/shake slightly but to me that's not a big problem.
Highly recommend the friction mount.

Excellent bit of kit, because it just works like it's product description says it will. I bought it to hold a Garmin Nuvi 2598 Sat Nav, that I mounted on the windscreen with the suction cup that came with it originally.
As I was fed up with the device periodically detaching itself whilst driving, I decided to try this product. It is excellent as it holds in place and does not shift despite bends or hills etc.
I can now place the Sat Nav much closer to me giving a greater ability to read the text on screen, easily. Money well spent.

I wish I had bought this a year ago. I have a vw up that doesn’t come with a sat nav. So I had to buy a sat nav and stick it to the screen which after some time kept falling off while I was driving. I put off buying this because I was concerned that the friction base might not work on the central air vent on my dashboard which is where I wanted it. Well it works and hasn’t moved an inch on my journeys to work which involve country roads with potholes and roundabouts and varying speeds. It does exactly what it says it does and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

I have used a similar supposedly non slip mount for my old sat-nav and it used to slip & slide all over the dash. This Garmin Friction Mount comes with the 'swan neck' to mount your Garmin Sat Nav on and when placed on the dash it STAYS there, I've thrown the car around a few bends and the mount stays where I put it, you really cannot ask for more with a non-fixed mount, and when you reach your destination you can hide the whole lot in your glove box. For those who are now going to ask for dimensions - who cares, if you don't have a lot of space the whole thing breaks down to it's component parts and is no more than 3 cm high when laid flat.

Disintegrated before 1000 miles

I used this in conjunction with a Garmin Camper 660 GPS in a motorhome. I used double sided tape to afix this to the centre of a Fiat Ducato dashboard. I've used it for less than 1000 miles...and today the plastic base has disintegrated. Whether any form of glue can fix this remains to be seen. The plastic base is attached to the bean bag by 4 screws. 3 of the plastic legs holding the top and bottom of the base have broken. I guess it's due to the vibrations of uneven British roads coming through to the mount that have caused it's demise.

Wirklich eine super Halterung - rutscht nicht, auch nicht bei stärkeren Bremsungen oder schärfer gefahrenen Kurven, hält quasi auf jedem Armaturenbrett und kann einfach entfernt oder in eine andere Lage gebracht werden. Mal sehen, wie es in ein paar Monaten aussieht. Habe die Halterung für das Garmin DriveSmart 61 gekauft, welches ja schon recht groß ist - aber kein Problem, hält super. Auch kein Schwingen oder Vibrieren! Kann man nur empfehlen.

A handy little mount that seems to hang on when you wouldn't really expect it to. I share the Sat Nav with my wife and she uses this in a Ford Focus with a mostly sloping dash and it works fine. She doesn't bother using it much anymore however as the Sat Nav takes her down country lanes that are on occasion impassible for cars.

Bought a new garmin seven inch sat nav and saw this while I was searching. Although reviews I read were positive, I was a bit wary as most reviewers had smaller lighter units and I wondered if it would cope with theextra size and weight of a seven inch model. I need not have worried. Even though my dashboard has a slight slope and is of a textured finish, this mount doesn't budge at all even under heavy braking or cornering. When parking it just lifts off the dash effortlessly, leaving no mark and you can pop both it and the sat nav into the boot, I have a bag that holds both, though it would easily slip into a glove box. When ready to go again just pop it back on the dash, no fixing or tightening and that's it. Looks pretty chic too in my opinion. Last but not least, gone are the suction marks on the windscreen that alerts any passer by that though the sat nav is not seen it's likely to be in the car. Well satisfied and I would recommend it without hesitation.
