Top customer reviews
When I first connected the 3760, I could not acquire satellites. Having read the nightmares about four hours of updating only to have failure to load, or failure to restart, I was nervous about trying to update the 3760. I figured I might have to return it.
I went to the Garmin update and downloaded the updates to my PC. I turned on the 3760 and plugged it into the pc, and then followed the update wizard. I updated the firmware and some voice updates. The process took about 5 minutes!! I have an Intel quad 7 processor, so an older PC might take a bit longer.
I then set up to take about an hour trip. The 3760 found satellites and calculated the route in less than 30 seconds. I love the screen clarity, and the external speaker gives sufficient volume. Then I intentionally went off route and the 3760 recalculated in less than 10 seconds!
I bought the 3760 because my TomTom took 5-10 minutes to startup and calculate routes, and it was hard to hear with any kind of cabin noise. It took a long time to recalculate as well.
Needless to say, I am completely satisfied with the 3760's performance and highly recommend it--- just be careful to have the unit fully charged before updating--- and follow the instructions.
The thin design of the unit is really attractive. It is very light weight also. The screen image is sharper than the older Nuvi. The auto rotate feature makes it easy to be held with one hand when not being used inside a vehicle. Before my trip, I was able to transfer items in "My Favorites" from my older unit to this new one (copying the *.gpx file with a computer). I also updated the firmware and map. It didn't take very long as someone experienced (probably between 15 to 30 minutes). I was using a mac computer. No issues in following the on-screen steps on the internet for the update. The 3790LMT was what I was originally looking for but there was a price drop on the 3760LMT so I just grabbed it. I thought the voice command on the 3790LMT would be handy while driving.
It is more expensive than some other 4.3" GPS on the market. But it is really nicely designed and is convenient to carry or put into a pocket on-the-go. The clarity of the screen is definitely an upgrade from other units. You can check out the resolution specification in comparison with other similar units. So far, no problems as some experience reported on the internet like map rendering problem etc. Will update when I have more chance to test further.
P.S. you can download a lot of different vehicles and voices from Garmin's web site and install them in this or other Garmin units. Some are free and some are not. Make sure you check the compatibility first. The character voices are very entertaining! I was also able to search POIs in Google Map than transferred them to the 3760LMT. I think transferring routes from Garmin's BaseCamp software is not working yet. You have to use Trip Planner on the unit for that.
The accuracy seems to be pretty good, I was pleased with it, only two times in the extensive use did it dissapoint and it was just a little bit. On one occassion in Rhode Island, trying to locate my hotel, it told me to make a right turn away from the hotel, and I needed to make a right on the street to drive towards the hotel. Although since I was amongst buildings the accuracy could have failed some in positioning. Once I turned around, it did guide me closer, although it could never point to the hotel.
The second time it failed was in Pennsylvania, I was locating a business address, and the road split in a Y, the GPS told me the address was on the right split to the right, instead of the left split to the left.
The other times it was very accurate, specifically telling me if the address would be to the right or left of the direction I was heading, and it was spot on every time.
Set-up was easy, not very difficult with Garmin products, although it did take a little bit to find some of the features that are not as obvious. But since it is touch navigation, is fairly easy to explore.
It is easy to recall past history of loactions previously found, and it has a traffic avoidance feature that I have not tested yet. The size of the screen is good, and the graphics are sharp. It is easy to see when mounted on the windshield, and the voice instructions are helpful.
It does not come with a wall charger out of the box, which was a bit dissapointing. It only has a car charger, and a USB charger, that does not have a wall piece like the I-phones do.
Overall is an excellent product that does what it says, it will get you to where you want to go, accurately and fast.
