4.0 out of 5 stars Hardware great. No post round edit ability for GPS shot tracking?
By Abbott on June 20, 2016
I spend about $5k on golf per year between club dues and equipment, and average about 30-40 rounds a year. I absolutely love having technology that supports my game, so when I came across the X40 in April I couldn't wait to buy it.

The device is light weight and fair-size for all the technology it has inside. I have worn this for 2 weeks and often forget that I am wearing it. The screen is seemingly durable because I have worn this doing heavy yard work and so far no scratches!

The battery charge lasts longer if I turn off notifications and back-light, and set the screen to auto-lock. The screen is extremely responsive to touch so even in the shower the water jets will swipe from section to section of the home screen (happens every time), which is not a big deal.

The heart rate sensor was the primary feature that got my attention along being positioned as a golf centric device. The 24/7 sensor is great and I have not noticed any irregularities in the HR measurements. I use HeartWatch on iOS and Apple HealthKit in addition to the Garmin Connect app, and based on my other HR devices at home the numbers are similar.

I have used the X40 for 4 rounds and only had one problem where during my 2nd round previous shot distances didn't work during the round and then my scorecard was not saved. I contacted Garmin product support and they could not explain it but offered ways of diagnosing the issue and seeing if my scorecard could be recovered.

I went ahead with my following two rounds and everything worked just as perfectly as it did during the 1st round.

My biggest *complaint* and it's really a sore issue is that you cannot edit your GPS shot plots after the fact in case of user or device error on the course (see attached screen shot — my tee shot is on the green!?). Game Golf and Arccos Golf essentially offer the same type of data solution for your golf game but those products actually allow you to modify that data to insure accuracy after your round. Garmin needs to invest in their golf scorecard web and app experience.

You can edit your score, putts, and hit/miss fairway directions now on the web, which is a new update, so at least we have that!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not fit for purpose.

    Initially this watch worked well.

Used this watch for golf and running. The strap has tore while only being used for light running and golf. Garmin want £75 to repair it. The straps not fit for purpose and I wouldn't recommend it.

The watch also struggles in any kind of rain (sensor on the face) and logs shots when you haven't hit one and misses ones you have.

It's over priced and poorly designed.
