It's not difficult to set up, and we found the instructions to be pretty clear. Once you've set it up, it is simple to use in basic (i.e. Where's my dog?) mode; we haven't found the need to use the various advanced features. It will display the compass direction and distance your dog is at, with your current heading always at the top (so it’s easy to see if your dog is ahead of you, behind you or somewhere in between). The position updates very quickly.
The collar, tag and antenna are quite sizeable, but they're not too cumbersome for our 55 lb Staffordshire terrier.
In one test, I kept the receiver at home while my wife took the tagged dog out, and it was reporting positions to the receiver 95% of the time even when she was 2-3 km away, with woodland and other features between us. At closer distances the reliability is close to 100%.
Now when our dog takes off into the woods after a deer we know exactly which way, and how far, to go to retrieve her. It takes all the worry out of off-leash walks in the woods.
Not real happy with the menus on the Garmin handheld device. Very, very difficult to actually locate the setting(s) within the menus, I want to modify.
Also, the proximity alarms... I have to set up a dozen perimeter alarms, to be able to notify when the dog leaves the area. Wish it had ability to set up 1 proximity alarm, to notify when dog leaves a central home location.
Off yet🙃. God forbids. It’s not a good feeling
When they are gone for 5 days in the jungle😪
