Failure, failure, failure
on January 13, 2014
I used the original rigid monitor with my Garmin Edge 500 for a year but after I replaced the batter the seal failed allowing the contacts to corrode. Readings were erratic or just no there at all. I cleaned the contacts up a couple of times but the corrosion kept coming back.
When the new HRM2 came out with a soft strap I bought one. It wasn't long before it became erratic and finally stopped working. New batteries, wetting the strap pickups, using contact gel, moving the strap to my back, another new battery, buying a Polar strap, nothing worked. Today is dead and, of course, the warranty is over. I went back to the old HRM, cleaned it and coated the contacts with silicone grease. I works but is still occasionally erratic.
I see that Garmin has a HRM3 now but I'm done with Garmin. I love my Garmin Edge 500 but the HRM sucks!
