Garry Reed was born into a carny family and grew up roving all over the American and Canadian midwest every summer with various traveling carnivals. At homebase in Nebraska he began writing and drawing from the first time he could reach a wall with a crayon. This culminated in working as a reporter, photographer and cartoonist for his high school newspaper.
As an adult college was unattainable at first and only hit and miss thereafter. So early on he transformed his cartooning into drafting and his “Mad Magazine” style of prose into technical writing and pursued serial careers as an electro-mechanical drafter, techincal illustrator, technical writer, logistics support analyst and supportability engineer. True to his carny roots he spent most of these careers as an independent freelancer contracting with clients from coast to coast and border to border before settling down first in Minnesota and finally in Dallas/Fort Worth.
Along the way he expanded his mind by obsessively reading, including satire, science fiction, non-fiction, history, classic novels, Ayn Rand’s Objectivism and a wide range of libertarian writers. In Minnesota he published “The Minnesota Libertarian” newspaper for that state’s early Libertarian Party. From 2001 onward he has written letters to the editor, self-syndicated an opinion column, written political, social and cultural commentary for his own website and numerous professional online and print venues, all from a libertarian perspective.
For 35 great years he has lived with his beautiful wife Mary and currently writes at HubPages under the marquee “The Libertarian Opinionizer.”
