This novella focuses on Lauren and Zane. Both are bartenders, working in different big cities but brought together by two people who come to New York on vacation. Lauren has just been through some rough times, but she is determined to learn from her mistakes and move on. It's easy to like her and identify with her as she meets/gets to know her new friends. Compared to the previous books in the series, I'd say that Lauren isn't described in as much detail as previous books, but that's what happens in a novella. For what's here (if you've never read the other books in the series) you won't be complaining about characterization about Lauren. Zane is a good guy, with surfer looks and a great love of NYC. You don't learn as much about him, so you can't love him as much, but he's great for Lauren. Together, the two experience some intense instalove and have great chemistry, something I've come to expect from this series.
The other characters that make up this book also deserve a mention. What was good was that you get to see more progress in the relationships between Nicole and Kate, and their husbands. Nicole and Kate are lovable characters who pop in throughout, and since some time has passed since book 2, you get a couple nice surprises. The only character I didn't like was the villain, but not for the reason you expect. While the villain was appropriately evil, it was the way he was written as thinking and talking that rubbed me the wrong way, as though he seems more like a cheesy kids story villain. But that's just me. There wasn't much of him, so it didn't ruin my experience by any means.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It's a fun, shorter book in the series that delivers all the smiles and feels you've come to expect in this series, with a great plot and cast of characters to go with it. If you love your instalove novellas with a dash of action and heat, and you've never read one of Aubrey Parr's books before, then you should check out this story. If you've read the other books in the series, you definitely need to read this!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Quill and Ink Reviews. This is my honest and voluntary review.
If you are a fan of the “insta” friendship and love books, then this novella is for you. Gas up the Jet, Baby is book 2.5, a quick novella read by author Aubrey Parr. I would recommend reading the first two books by this author as it follows the continued friendship of Kate and Nicole and references back to events from the series prior books. After a short while, I had no problem following the storyline.
This follows the two friends on a weekend getaway, where they quickly befriend a young woman who had a recent life-changing event in her life. Kate and Nicole invite their new friend along for the weekend. Upon arrival their young friend, Lauren catches the eye of the hot bartender at the Hotel they are staying. Lauren and her new friends, enjoy a night of cocktails at the bar and engaging in conversation with said hot guy Zane. Lauren knew her life was in need of a major change but she has no clue how much this getaway will change everything!! Kate and Nicole help Lauren reunite with a close relative, she chances a date with the hot bartender but never expects to capture the attention of a madman!!! How can one night completely change Lauren’s life, well dive into this book and you will see!
Again, if you love the “insta” storylines, then you will enjoy this one. The flow and pace of the book is steady and it was easy to overlook the proofreading errors, as there were few. Sadly, we were not able to see the full depth of the new characters with the time constraints of a novella. At times, I did feel the storyline seemed a bit rushed in order to conclude all the storylines each character was involved in but again you often see this in shorter novella’s. My one disappointment was that I would have loved to see more details into the ending, perhaps an epilogue. Yet, I feel certain the author will clue us into the happenings of the characters she introduced in this book, in any of her upcoming books in this series. Overall a sweet, quick read!!!
I really liked this book. It is great to see the Love On... characters again while meeting new characters. Lauren just left her boyfriend after catching him cheating on her. Nicole and Kate find her sitting on the train while heading to the airport. They decide to invite her along on their weekend away.
The girls are fun to read about and super friendly, while still being cautious. They welcome Lauren and embrace their new friendship. Zane is the bartender at their hotel and he and Lauren have an instant connection.
Lauren reconnected with her older brother, Cam, contemplates her attraction to Zane, brushes off the advances of another man, and spend time with her new friends. What should she do. She wants to stay and see where things go, but also spend more time with her friends.
Trouble strikes and everyone comes together. Will they stop the trouble before it gets too far or will they be too late.
I liked this book and I'm ready to read about Cam and his life. I can't wait for more books with all of these characters. Give this book and the others a read.
