Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

With a title like this, expect no surprises within. The latest Japanese import by Kane/Miller continues in the same vein as Everyone Poops and The Holes in Your Nose, exploring yet another subject generally considered taboo. Brevity reigns in both illustration (cartoons and diagrams tinted with swaths of clashing color) and text (which doesn't even attempt to be subtle). Both informative and blunt, the book provides young readers with solid facts as well as plenty to snicker about, including some sage advice ("Don't hold them in-pass that gas!") that will send parents everywhere running for the air freshener. Ages 18 mos.-4 yrs.

From School Library Journal

Kindergarten-Grade 1-A simplistic explanation of human and animal flatulence. The text adequately tells how gas is formed and its characteristics, although it overlooks the role of dairy products in its formation. A basic diagram shows the passage of food and air through the body. The drearily colored, amateur line cartoons depict a family of no particular race and zoo animals with sound balloons, such as "BURP!" and "BAAROOMM" being emitted from both ends. This bodily function that is the source of so much schoolyard humor may be of interest to youngsters, but they won't glean much information from this mediocre presentation.

Cute book, a little more graphic than I expected but at the same time I appreciated the books details and honesty. I gave this book as a gift to someone who bought a book about poop to my kids. :)

Bought this book for a friend's daughter who turned 10 this July. I thought this book would be a perfect gag gift that's actually somewhat useful. I was torn between buying this or "Everybody Poops" but thought this was more appropriate.

The book is hilarious and definitely something a preschooler or kindergartner could read with their parents. There is some innocent drawn nudity (boy bathing with his dad) so if you're wary about that, I'd suggest buying something else. But honestly, it's like a kid's drawing and you could tell it's not intended to offend. Just a forewarning for those worried about things like that.

Enjoyed this immensely. Very funny and actually quite informative. Not a vulgar book if you are wondering as a parent. I read it to my girls (since they are just as curious) though I'm thinking that it might be more interesting to boys. The author takes a light-hearted but good-hearted approach to the topic and incorporates the science of anatomy and biology and digestion. I actually learned something! I recommend this book.

The title of the book catches your attention right away. So does the elephant behind on the front (and yes, when you flip the book over, the front of the elephant is there as well.) I bought this book for a college professor who had (and no kidding here) given us a short lecture about farts and how/why we produce them. So after his lecture, I though of this book (which I had seen in a store before) and decided that I had to get it for him. Did he enjoy it? Yes...he loved it a lot. He says it is a good children's book as well as a basic scientific explanation as to why we (ahem) pass gas.

The pictures are wonderfully drawn and the story line is simple, but very scientific. I highly recommend purchasing this book, whether it is for a child, a gift, or (as in my case) a practical joke gift!

The fun my husband had with this book! I bought it for the baby but my husband has been delighting over it and sending pictures of various pages to his pals. It’s probably not that accurate, but it’s amused us!
