There is a downside:
Like many reviewers have mentioned, my pot came with a pretty big dent in the bottom corner. I took my chances and got a damaged one.
Other than that, it was a good purchase.
Update: The seller was more than accommodating when I let them know about the dent in my pot. They offered to send me a replacement, which I chose to accept. The return process was painless and my replacement kettle arrived quickly, in perfect condition! Thanks so much!
Fairly sturdy 8 gallon pot.
Very solid / substantial handle welds.
Thermometer checked against 2 digital thermometers and was accurate with a degree or two.
Inexpensive, especially when on sale, when compared to some of the big name brew pots.
The bad:
Even though the box / packaging was in pristine undamaged condition, the pot I received had a ding / small dent near the very bottom. That means it was packaged with the dent. Either way, it was very minor and doesn't affect use of the pot.
The threading on the valve was bad and I could NOT attach it to the pot. I didn't discover this until the first day I used it though (about a month after receiving) but fortunately I had another stainless valve of my own that I used instead. Lesson there is that if you order this item, fully assemble / check all the fitting right away instead of waiting.
Overall decent value for what you get with the caveat I mentioned about the valve. I may actually buy another one in the future.
So far after four batches of wort there's no corrosion or problems, and the thermometer reads pretty close with boil at 214. There's usually a bit of a bath-tub ring from hops resin, but it cleans up real pretty.
I only used it on an electric range element so far, but it easily boils 3 gallons. I have a propane burner for whole batch boiling when needed. Only noticed slight caramelizing of the malt onto the pot bottom, but I need to stir more frequently. Which reminds me, a pair of high temp BBQ gloves are nice for reaching into the pot to stir when it's making some steam. Unless you use a six foot spoon handle. Realize you have to kind of reach into the tall pot from time to time, so steam resistant gloves are called for. I tie my grain sock to a string to help steep it, and tie the string to a handle to keep it off the bottom when heating.
The thermometer is only suitable for hot water uses, not hot oil.
