This sharpener put an edge on my knife that was just as sharp as the edged that was on it when it came from the factory. I was thoroughly impressed. I have also used it to sharpen up many of the nicer steak knives in my kitchen and it has worked fabulously.
Perhaps I'm just slow using this, but one downside is that it takes a significant amount of time to put a perfect edge on a knife, especially if you are using all of the different stones (such as when starting with a very dull blade). One thing I found that helped speed up the process was purchasing a Gatco 15002 Extra Coarse Sharpening Hone. It takes metal off of dull blades a lot faster than the coarse stone included in this kit. But still, even after sharpening numerous blades, I'm not very fast at it and each blade takes me a good 20 to 30 minutes start to finish. One thing that I do to facilitate sharpening is I put the whole setup (after my knife is clamped into the holding fixture) in a vice on a work bench. Then I don't have to worry about holding the blade setup with one hand and sharpening with the other; I can use two hands to sharpen the blade.
The best thing about this kit is it allows you to get the PERFECT angle for your blade. If you don't know what angle your blade is, you can usually find it online.Read more ›
The diamond elements cut fast, but even the finest one is a little coarse. You will still want your Arkansas stone to finish polishing the grind.
One drawback are the screws that are used to hold the blade to the angle clamp. It's a tight squeeze getting my semi fat fingers around it. Some other brands have a flat screwdriver slot to make it a bit easier. with all the positives, this is pretty minor.
I would also recommend purchasing the ultra fine ceramic hone to truly clean up the edge.
I would absolutely recommend this to anyone needing to sharpen their knives.
1. It takes quite a while to use,
2, Is a bit fiddly to use and
3. It's a lot more hassle getting all the bits out and washing the grinders after use to clear them of the oil before storage.

This is hands down the easiest and quickest sharpening system I've ever used. I did buy the extra fine stone as well. Never had a better edge on my KA-BAR.Published on May 11, 2014 by S. Michael
