If you have Nylon seats covers in your vehicle, then this item will keep you from being zapped ! Works great. Just use one of the existing holes on the frame, make sure you clean the area with a wire brush to make it shiney and attach it with star washers and stainless steel hardware. Works great ! WARNING....be prepared for everybody in the world to tell you that you have something dragging underneath your vehicle.

My wife used to complain about static shocks. Touching her after I got in the car when she picked me up resulted in zaps and loud complaints from her! I attached this to our car and no more static arcs and no more complaints!

This item is 25" long by 1 1/16" wide and about 5/32" thick. The grommet hole is about 7/16" D. I easily attached it with a SS bolt to a hole in an existing chassis bracket clear of moving parts, using a star washer to bite into the steel to make a good connection. My car is a 1998 Honda Accord. The strap is much longer than needed and can of course be trimmed.

This item is much more reasonably priced than similar items which have an OEM photo and a professionally produced marketing description. I haven't tried any others but it is hard for me to imagine how this can be improved on. Of course, now we get questions from people wondering what is hanging under the car, but that is to be expected! It's well worth it.

True, it seems like everyone wants to tell you something is hanging from the car, including my mechanic; drives my wife crazy, especially while shopping!! They mean well. It does what it states and yes the car does seem to be less dirty. I see these a lot when traveling up in Canada. These were very popular in the states in the 50's, along with curb feelers and brody knobs. I think the rubber straps are best as the metal type corrodes, especially with road chemicals. If you have a raised vehicle, like a truck, get at least the height of the truck plus about 8" as it must rest on the ground when stopped, and best if it drags while going slow. Very durable. Be sure you bolt it to a metal part that goes to ground, and use a star washer if you can; meter the contact point to the battery NEG (-) to be sure it is grounded. If you connect to an insullated part, painted surface, or plastic it will not work at all. Don't be surprised if you meter the strap and it does not zero; it is carbon impregnated but is not like a wire. Don't accept it if it is shipped curled as it must touch the ground well; the wind will lift it while driving fast. I prefer connecting near the front and no reflector. Work carefully. If your wife complains too much, take it off, or don't put it on her car.

Update 7/1/13:

It worked very well and I still highly recommend it. BUT, I removed it recently due to so many kind, well-meaning, people telling me and/or MY WIFE that something was hanging under our truck, and my wife being irritated by it. Even our car dealership pointed it out and suggested something was wrong. I think it works great but many people need to use these so the strapped don't get irritated by the unstrapped. Most people do not understand these things. It works great but I'm sick of the questions. I'll just wash my car more often.

I was getting a static zap when I got out of my car, so I figured I was getting a build-up on the frame.

I purchased one of these looking to fix the problem. I installed it (attached to the frame as required) and it didn't do any good. It turns out that regular car tires use the same type of rubber as this static strap and you don't get a build-up.

I also found that the static build-up was from the car seats, sliding across them when I got out of the car. I bought some anti-static spray and sprayed it on the seats. Problem solved.

So, the end result is that this is just a gimmick that doesn't solve static problems.

Work on the pipeline so these static strips are required to reduce or minimize static electricity. Looked everywhere I live and couldn't find any. I used to get shocked a lot getting in and out if my pickup due to static build up numerous times a day especially in the winter time but since I installed two of these I've not gotten zapped the first time. Great product !! Does what it's supposed to do !! I think some of the negative comments I've read are due to improper installation. You need to attach it to the frame or hitch of the vehicle. You should also use either some coarse sandpaper or a tiger paw or file to rough up the surface so the brass grommets make contact with the vehicle structure for proper grounding. Most vehicles today have an undercoating on them. These static strips have very fine wires molded in them so a proper ground is necessary to discharge the static from the vehicle to the ground.

Find a bolt on your frame (which is grounded), attach strap, done! I have these on two vehicles, one it almost completely eliminates static shock when exiting, the other vehicle not so much. Nice, heavy duty material but almost too short to use on my Ford Ranger work truck (just order the longer version for trucks). I would recommend these.
