I do alot of gaming, and while this one isn't advertised as a gaming computer it plays everything very well. The 5750 card handles Fallout games (both 3 and NV) without a hiccup, and Crysis - a benchamark game - runs flawlessly. 8 GB of RAM doesn't hurt, of course - especially with RTS and MMORPG type games (which it also plays flawlessly). If it'll handle that, it'll handle nearly anything I need to do. It is also very quiet and energy efficient - huge bonuses to me. I used to run 2 Nvidia 8800 GTs in SLI and they were noisy as heck, but this one performs about as well with no noise at all.
The ports are very convenient - 4 frontal USB ports for temp device connections and 6 USB in back for more permanent devices. Multimedia card reader is in a very accessible place, too.
1 TB hard drive is nice to have. Augment that with externals, of course.
I have been suffering with Vista for the last two years, so I was anxious to get a Windows 7 OS, and while the first couple of days had a rough learning curve, now it is smooth sailing. All of the practically daily hassles that Vista had become have been eliminated. This OS actually works. That is nothing to shake a stick at...
I actually had an order in with a custom build company that specializes in gaming systems - you know the ones, where you can build your system piece by piece online - but cancelled that order as soon as I found this one. For the money I simply could not build a more capable and stable system than this one. I tried for days... Couldn't do it. So I cancelled that order, took the plunge here, and I am not looking back.
Excellent value on this one.
Next... The Customer Service from Circuit City is Horible:
Before I took the pc to the fix-it place I contacted Circuit City's Customer Service asking what I could possibly do to get the pc fixed, the only response I got was a return authorization with a 30 day limit (no explanation). I immediately replied back that I didn't want to return right away since I had already loaded some very expensive software and I was needing the pc for daily work.Read more ›
After getting the retailer to contact Gateway and putting me on a conference call with a Gateway representative, the rep tried to make an issue of the fact that I hadn't filled out the warranty registration card, and tried to insist that I fax him proof of purchase, even though the retailer was on the line and was insisting that I had a valid receipt. So it had to be escalated to some kind of Gateway manager. Then I was told that I had to ship the CPU to Texas at my own expense for them to fix it. What kind of warranty is that? I didn't mail order this POS, I bought it at a brick and mortar retail outlet. A decent manufacturer who requires you to ship defective product back will always send prepaid shipping label.
Gateway used to be a good brand. Now they sell pretty but defective crap, and when it breaks down you are stuck with it.

Was easy to set up and runs like a charm. The video card runs all my current games very well. 8 gigs of memory is more than enough for anything I might do. Read morePublished on January 16, 2011 by pmess
