In this haunting and inventive novel, a nine-year-old boy who lives with his family in a cemetery's gatehouse finds his life altered by a relative's unexpected visit. Ages 8-12. Copyright 1995 Reed Business Information, Inc.
I really enjoyed this book. It isn't your typical 'young boy with obstacles must struggle to overcome' because you are never completely sure what's real and what isn't. Are his friends real, or figments of his imagination? I was also left with the sense, at the end of the book, that the apparent conclusion might not actually have been. If you like the teenage 'misfit with the undesirable family faces the world' genre, and the fantasy genre, this book will be a pleasant if sometimes surreal addition to your library.
