Kenneth R. Tarr taught French language and literature at Brigham Young University for fourteen years, and French and Spanish for three years at Snow College in Ephraim, Utah. He received a master's degree in French and Spanish at Brigham Young in 1965, and a doctorate in French at Kansas University in 1973, with a minor in Medieval history.

Kenneth was born and raised in southern California and has been a member of the LDS church all his life, serving in many capacities. He and his wife, Kathy, have been married fifty-one years and have eight children and twenty-seven grandchildren. Currently they live in Utah where they own and operate an herb store. Kenneth enjoys writing, exercising, doing repairs, and listening to good music. --This text refers to the paperback edition.

You must read! This book was a conundrum for me. I wanted to like it but wasn't sure I'd even finish it when I started the first chapter. The next time I came up for air, I had been reading for almost an hour and was totally immersed in the story. I was so excited to realize that even though each book is a stand alone story but there are more! Yay, it's a series so I don't have to give up my new friends quite yet. Trust me. You will enjoy this read! I highly recommend this book to any & all!!! :D

Doesn't Maintain Its Pace, Disappointing Prophecy

Members of the LDS church aren't bad at understanding prophecy as long as those prophecies are in the Book of Mormon or D&C; however, they're terrible at biblical prophecy. Tarr's book kept me interested right up to the time he got into secret combinations, then the book lost me as the machinations of the secret combination began to descend into one of two-dimensional stereotypes that completely defied reality. This most likely is because Tarr lacks the detailed knowledge of how nations and governments are run. Also, if Mormons knew biblical prophecy, they would know that the Beast, known also as Gog or "the Assyrian," will most likely be a Muslim leader, probably from Turkey, who will consolidate the Islamic nations (specified by name by Ezekiel, Zechariah and others). Islamic prophecy also is rich in predicting two great leaders who sound suspiciously like the biblical Antichrist and false prophet. (Read THE ISLAMIC ANTICHRIST, by Joel Richardson, as well as his other book, THE MID-EAST BEAST.) My only beef with Richarson's books is that he completely ignored the two prophets who would be raised to impede the Beast's progress. This is understandable, however, given the varying views of Christians, some who (like me) believe they will be prophets from this dispensation, whilst others believe them to be the ancient prophets Moses and Ezekiel, both of whom were translated for future missions.

Up to the secret combinations, Tarr's book held my interest, but I couldn't get past the stereotypes and kept expecting Mini-Me to make an appearance. Like they say, close, but no cigar. As politically incorrect as it is to say, the Muslims are expecting a powerful leader to take charge -- a leader who will "break the cross," eliminate the tax on non-Muslims and kill those who refuse to convert. And oh yes, make war on the Jews and recover Jerusalem as a Muslim state.

How much clearer could it be?

I am a fan of Last days books, looking for them wherever I can find them. I found this on Amazon when I was looking at another series and decided to try it. I have been into the series enough that I am now on the 3rd book in the series and have read them back to back, wanting to know what comes next. The writing is good with some exceptions. I have some issues with the strong political bias that is evident in the writing. When I read a book, no matter what it's about I want to be able to form my opinions on the content and if there is political opinion to be formed,. let me form it on my own, not have it be a blatant platform to air the author's political beef's . A good author can show his politics in his story without it being offensive. This border's on offensive. If I wasn't interested in the story line I may have quit reading the books in the first book. Other than that I ;like the books.

When I first looked at the reviews I wasn't sure if I really wanted to read this or not, but decided that for the price what could I lose. I am so glad I ordered this book. I never imagined that I would be reading a fictional book that is exactly what is going on in the news every day right now, it's scary.
Look around you at the corruption in all governments including ours, look at the crime rate, unusual weather, the disease outbreaks. It does go beyond what is happening right now, but does follow prophesy WOW!!!!!
I'm glad I did not go with the negative reviews. I have ordered the second volume. It definitely is an LDS point of view, but go to The Book of Revelations in the Bible and study that to see that it is a Christian prophesy.
When you see the news on TV this book sounds more like truth than fiction and I for one would rather be aware when we are put into this position. This book is worth every minute it takes to read it, now is a time we should be scared.

Great Warning to All of Us

Exciting and well-written book. While it will mainly appeal to fellow members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, it could be enjoyed by most anyone. I especially enjoyed the frequent appeal to scriptures and current events to make the story believable and relevant. I think it is good warning for all of us to be mentally, physically, and spiritually prepared for whatever the Lord might call upon us to do. Brother Tarr did an excellent job of building up his characters and making them into real people with understandable and plausible personalities. As a "Left Behind" series fan and a seminary teacher, I am familiar with the events which the scriptures assure us will come upon us in the last days. i've already purchased the next two books, as I want to see how Brother Tarr continues to develop his series around these know events. On a personal note, I was gratified to see that I was right to have larger than most's emergency supply of toilet paper. :-)

I'm not really impressed with this book. I felt that the author was trying too hard to make the story a combination of Stallone, Segal, McQueen, Willis, Nicholas, etc. action packed calamities all rolled together in one story. But he also remembers that he needs a base story line to go with the action, so he tries to work that in too. I could definitely tell that it is a first attempt to write an actual book and the author has a lot of potentially good ideas for several different stories. However towards the end of the book he did finally start to pull the story together enough that I have bought the second book in the series to see if he progresses enough to make the rest of the series worth reading. I am not very impressed with this book but hoping for improvement in the second book.
