I had high hopes for this guy when I picked it up a year ago. I travel frequently with an acoustic guitar and it's always a pain to try and convince the flight attendants to let me keep my guitar in the coat closet. I saw the tsa locks and researched to see if anyone else had checked this case before. Found none that could verify it's fortitude.

When I first received the case I noticed that it was big, heavy and bulky. The balance on the handle is off center so it is uncomfortable to carry for long distances. As far as the structure goes, well I could place my hand on the body of the case and press inward and actually FEEL the bridge of my guitar through the case. One solid shock from a piece of luggage and your guitar is destroyed. I took a cheap guitar with me and flew with it in this case checked just to see how it would fare.

The first time I flew with it one of the latches broke off of the case. The airline wouldn't claim responsibility for the damage so I took it up with Gator themselves. No reply to 4 emails that I sent to their warranty department. I had to call many times to get someone to even answer the phone. After a year of trying to get someone to call me back regarding this matter I gave up. It was the worst experience I have ever had with a music supply company. I will never buy anything from Gator Cases again.

I bought this case for air travel with my Yamaha FG730S. The fit was snug, but not too snug, and the case itself is solid and substantial without being too heavy. I traveled from California to Florida and back via plane, and had no problems at all - guitar and case arrived in good shape. One of the three latches has a TSA lock, so be sure to bring your key with you, or make sure the case is unlocked at your arrival destination, just in case the TSA folks get into it and then lock it for you. I personally like having a lock, because it affords an extra measure of security in the sense that often while traveling with a musical instrument, one or more latches on the case will get flipped open just while being handled. If you lock at least one, you can be sure the case will not open and spill out your instrument. This can and does happen sometimes otherwise.

I'm very pleased with the case - I'd recommend it over others I looked at.

I spend extended time in Mexico every winter and I got this thing to haul my guitars back and forth between Denver and Puerto Vallarta. So far so good. First time through it delivered the guitar without any damage over the round trip. I flew it on Frontier and on arrival on both ends it was set aside with the "oversize" luggage. In the airport in PV they just left it laying flat in the middle of the floor. Kinda weird but at least that was better then on the carousel. Mexico is just a head shaker most of the time anyway. Arriving back in Denver it ended up in the "oversize" rack. So both times the airline "took care" and didn't allow it to get pummeled by all the rest of the luggage on the carousels - at least from what I could see. The case didn't even get scuffed very much. I don't know if I was just blessed with caring airline workers or what but, from my experience so far, the stories I read in reviews on here of guitar cases where the latches and handles are ripped off and cases are crushed by careless baggage handlers seem like they are probably relatively rare occurrences.Of course, I've only used it for two flights so, i may not have enough data yet. Time will tell, I guess. I'll be shipping a guitar to Mexico and back couple times a year for quite a while in this case so if it ever gets whacked real hard I'll let you know.

As far as delivery, the thing arrived from the seller completely intact, on time, no problems. All latches and everything worked fine and the TSA lock is sweet because, if you don't have one of those you have to leave your case unlocked unless you want them to bust open your lock. I did get a note left inside on both flights saying they'd opened it.

My son (17) is spending several weeks in Germany as an exchange student this summer. He wanted to take his guitar, which is just a standard Yamaha acoustic guitar. They don't let you gate check guitars much anymore, so we bought this one due to the high likelihood that he'd have to check it. Well, his guitar made it there in 1 piece! No damage to the case either. I don't know if this is the right case for expensive guitars and/or professional musicians, but it is perfect for what we needed. If it has any issues on the the return trip, I'll post an update, but otherwise, I recommend this case.

Gator cases are fantastic. The GPA-DREAD-TSA case fits my '77 Gibson J-50 like a glove. I had several questions before buying the case and emailed them to the support folks at Gator. My queries were answered accurately and promptly. I'm delighted with my purchase.

My fiance got this for me as a Christmas present for my Alvarez Dreadnought. It fits it like a glove. It's incredibly light-weight compared to my other case. The grip on the handle is very comfortable. If you're the owner of an over-the-case bag and are worried that this won't fit because of the feet DON'T. It fits inside mine (Elderly Instruments model for dreadnoughts) just fine. If you're a gigging musician you definitely need this case!
