The Gator Cases GPT-BLACK guitar pedal board mixes affordability, durability, and style all in one innovative product. The GPT-BLACK pedal board is made of lightweight plywood covered in rugged Tolex material. The GPT-BLACK has a usable surface area that measures 16.5” X 12”. The GPT-BLACK guitar pedal board also includes mounting holes under the board for most multi-output power supplies. Other awesome features of this guitar pedal board include a carry handle, Velcro surface for attaching pedals (Velcro included), an angled surface, a slot on top of the board for routing cables, rubber feet, and a 600-Denier nylon carry bag with a removable shoulder strap which includes a generously large storage pocket for cables and other accessories.
The Gator Cases GPT series guitar pedal boards are available with or without a power supply. The GPT family of guitar pedal boards also includes the GPT-BL-PWR, GPT-BLACK, GPT-PRO, and the GPT-PRO-PWR series that are larger, when more guitar pedals are needed. These pedal boards are popular among musicians because they are lightweight, inexpensive, available with a power supply, and built to withstand the stomp!

Here are the good points:
-- Solid contruction, although heavy. When loaded up with pedals, etc, it will have some heft to it.
-- composite wood contruction allows for screwing things in place, easily drilling holes where required, etc. This is great for customization.
-- The wood construction won't interfere with wireless receivers (such as the Line 6 G30 product) which have internal antennae in the base of the receiver. Metal frame pedalboards can sometimes cause issues with the G30.
-- The pedalboard is sloped, which not only makes pedal access easier, but also provides a handy place underneath for attaching power strips, DC power supplies, etc. The board comes with screws already in place underneath for attaching Gator's own optional multi-pedal power supplies.
-- The pedalboard is easily removed from the bag.
-- The bag quality is good, which strong zippers which operate quite easily.
-- There are two roomy, sturdy pockets for extra cables, etc.
-- There is a sturdy carrying handle on top edge of the board, which sticks up through the bag for carrying the board in the bag.
Now, here are the negative points:
-- The Tolex-type black material covering much of the board did not have tight seams. In the corners, you could see exposed wood at the seams. I used a black "Sharpie" brand marker to cover the exposed wood so that the seams would not be visible.
-- There were some "bumps" under the Tolex covering in a few places, which indicates that there may have been some surface defects in the wood, or glue bumps, in those areas. Not a big deal, but evidence of shoddy workmanship when applying the Tolex covering.
-- The biggest functional issue was that the "loop" material (which covers the entire top of the board) was lifting up at some of the seams. The material is actually composed of several wide strips, butted up against each other.
The loop material was actually pretty easily fixed. I pressed it back down into place (it still seemed to have sufficient tackiness to the adhesive); then, to ensure that it stayed fastened properly to the pedalboard, I took a industrial stapler (the type used for fastening upholstery, etc) and stapled along all the seams, with a staple straddling a seam every 5 or 6 inches. I also stapled along the outside edges of the loop material covered area. This worked very well. I've had no problems since then with any of the material pulling up, even with some heavy equipment Velco'ed onto the pedalboard.
I then took the same black "Sharpie" marker and colored over the top of the staples, so that they mostly disappear into the loop material background.
Final analysis: although I had to do some "improvements" to the product, I would buy it again if I needed a second one. For the money and my needs, it is a good value.
Construction is solid. I don't see me jumping around on a club stage so no worries about breaking it. Board is plywood wrapped in tolex so it is a bit heavier than others. The particular one I received looked like the tolex could have been wrapped a little better, but this is all about function, not beauty. Thanks to the slight angle, I can throw a couple things under the front of the board in the case, as well as in the front pocket.
I have two minor complaints that are in no way deal breakers given the purpose and cost of this board but may be for you:
1. I don't care for the handle on the front of the board. The handle for carrying this once in the case comes through the case and is attached to the board. Maybe its from years of touring, but I like to have things full enclosed to prevent the elements from getting in. Not a huge deal at all, just a minor inconvenience that I can certainly live with for the price.
2. There is no shoulder strap on the bag. Again, for small club gigs where I take a blues jr. and 1, maybe 2 guitars, it would be nice to just sling this thing over my shoulder and have hands free for amp/guitar.
One word,.....BIG. (I'm thinking of buying a luggage dolly for it!)
I have fourteen pedals in it right now, and could fit more on it if I tried.
My Only complaint is with the power supply. It works fine, I do notice some noise as opposed to individual wall warts and daisy chains, but nothing too bad. But what I don't like is that the cables that supply power to the individual pedals can be too short if you only have the one power supply and want to install it underneath the board. And these cables are not the standard cables so you cannot order longer cables from another manufacturer. It also has three 18v outputs but only includes one cable, luckily the 18v outputs use standard power supply cables so you can order more from other manufacturers.
I have had no problems with the Velcro surface, though I did not use the Velcro they included for the back of the pedals, I used Industrial Strength Velcro.
ALL pedal boards are incredibly overpriced for what they are, in my opinion. But, this one is about as good a deal as you are going to get. Why Amazon is currently selling them almost eighty dollars cheaper than everyone else, I don't know, but I like it!
Personally, I am very happy with this purchase.
Obviously if you are a touring musician, you should be looking at something that goes in a hard shell, ATA approved, flight case, and NOT a canvas bag. For the at home jammer, and the weekend warrior, this thing is great!
