By I. Thomas on August 2, 2005
Format: Hardcover
I used to be a member of Ronnie Floyd's church (First Baptist of Springdale, Arkansas) back in 1995. I also served as the pianist for his Sunday school class back then. I have since moved to Texas but recently saw that Dr. Floyd had a new book entitled, "The Gay Agenda" so I purchased a copy of the book and read it in one sitting. I am a Christian and I also happen to be gay. I tried to read the book with an open mind. There were things that I agreed with in the book an things that I disagreed with. I was fairly certain of what Dr. Floyd's perspective would be regarding the issue of homosexuality. What stunned me was how Dr. Floyd took historical issues and twisted them to fit his concept that homosexuality has caused many societies to fall (see page 123). Floyd says, "The fact is, no culture in history that has embraced homosexuality has long survived. The gay lifestyle is not the way to build a healthy society." First off, the societies that he mentions (Canaan, Egypt, Assyria, Babylonia, Greece and Rome--see pg. 122) did not fall into ruin BECAUSE of homosexuality. That is a LONG stretch to assert something like that, in fact, it causes Dr. Floyd to be guilty of the very things he accuses gays of doing...stretching the facts to fit a certain agenda.

Dr. Floyd talks on page 95 about how "pro-family" fathers and mothers are busy with their daily routines: "working, taking care of children, church activities..." and are therefore at a "disadvantage" to the "pro-gay" individuals who are "married to their cause." But, I know plenty of "pro-family" gay and lesbian men and women who are ALSO raising their families, working, and yes they are even going to church. I was offended that Dr.

I have a gay brother and sister, and they are exactly the same people now they were as small children -- except they've grown up to become a doctor and a respected business executive, each still with a partner they met over 30 years ago.

Their "agenda"? My sister: to heal the sick, and raise her son in an atmosphere that isn't poisonous with hate and bigotry. My brother: to lead an otherwise normal and happy life with his partner.

Sorry to spoil the horrible picture painted by the author, but I've known both these gay people for over 50 years, and they're as normal as you and I -- but thank God, NOT like the author of this book.

My brother and sister are NOT filled with hate like the author of this book, NOT trying to recruit followers with lies like the author of this book: my siblings are just simply trying to lead good lives with their loved ones and their friends (gay and straight.)

And I've met plenty of their gay friends -- again, nobody with any agenda but to live a life as normal as possible, despite the hate-filled bigots waging a cultural war against them.

The only people with an agenda that I can discern, are like the author of this book, trying to force their own distorted and hellish vision of religion on the rest of us normal human beings.

If anyone has an agenda here, it's "doctor" Floyd, who obviously forgets that there is a constitutional separation of church and state in the US. Therefore, they cannot legally enforce their religious beliefs on anyone. Also, if anyone has an "agenda" it's the radical, so-called Christians who believe they're entitled to legislate basic human rights, based, again, on their own religious and moral beliefs. You cannot legislate dogmas or put basic human rights on a referendum like the California's Proposition 8 or Florida's Proposition 2, both of which passed. With that being said, this book is nothing more than the "right-wing agenda" aiming to brainwash as many people as possible. However, judging from the lack of reviews, it makes me wonder if anyone is really taking the writer seriously. It's hard to imagine that someone who claims to be a "doctor" claims in this book that homosexuality is a choice, where science has proven over and over again that it's genetic. It's in the DNA. This book will serve no other purpose than to be distributed at Fred Phelps' Westboro Baptist Church.

A voice of truth speaking from a solid understanding of scripture and the matter at stake. The heart of Floyd's message is of love, that we must fight the destruction that sin brings but show the love that Jesus had towards sinners.

Not an in-depth analysis of the biblical and theological arguments against homosexuality but a wake-up call to the slippery slope that we are falling into.

Finally a book that exposes the gay agenda for what it is, and just what a great threat to this nation's moral foundation it represents. It is a call for those who still know right from wrong to take a firm stand against this grievous threat against faith, marriage, and family. While we talk about the threat from terrorism, the war, and the state of our economy, we are ignoring a profound threat from within, as homosexuals seek to overturn every aspect of American life and insinuate their perverse lifestyle throughout all of society. Dr. Floyd is a courageous man for writing this book, and I believe it should be required reading for all Americans. (...)
